April 14, 20233 yr I switched for better HDR support in Windows 11. Other than a few subtle UI changes to the task bar and settings, it's largely the same for me, but then I only use Windows for gaming so I'm never really "using" Windows. 😄 To fan the flames of this thread even further (if that's possible) I prefer a Mac for productivity. 😛
April 14, 20233 yr 14 hours ago, cobalt said: The reality -- as has been said many times -- is that there appears to be no clear advantage to Windows 11 over Windows 10. The argument that "Win 11 is the latest thing, therefore we should upgrade to it" is unconvincing. Win 11 is clearly a product for which there was no obvious demand, or need, and the fact that we are constantly pressured to convert to it -- and many are resisting that pressure -- is telling. Microsoft's support for Windows 10 home and pro edition, ends on October 14, 2025. That's a little over 2 years away. If I were running Windows 10 when Microsoft ends support of it, I would not do any banking, credit card transactions, e-mail, and I would even be weary of surfing the internet in general, because of possible vulnerabilities from just surfing the internet. Probably by early 2025, people need to figure out if they can upgrade to Windows 11 or not, before Windows 10 support ends. To make it worse though, not every computer can be upgraded to Windows 11. The earlier you know whether your computer can be upgraded or not to Windows 11, the better, so that you can prepare, when Windows 10 support officially ends. People still have time to prepare, about 2 years. But by early 2025, you probably want to know whether your computer can be upgraded to Windows 11 or not before Windows 10 support ends. If your computer can't be upgraded to Windows 11, you need to think of a backup plan. BTW, I'm not even considering MSFS after Windows 10 support ends. Of course if Windows 10 support ends, there isn't even a guarantee MSFS will work on Windows 10 after Windows 10 support ends. I'm simply referring to more critical tasks, such as banking, finance, credit card transactions, and even e-mail, where the user is left vulnerable to hackers, etc. You never want to do critical tasks like these on an unsupported Windows operating system, especially because Windows doesn't have a sandbox like other operating systems like IOS. April 14, 20233 yr Well, for those of us with 12th and 13th gen Intel CPUs it’s a no-brainier. Here’s a quote from an article on Anandtech: ”What makes Windows 11 better than Windows 10 in this regard is that Windows 10 focuses more on the power of certain cores, whereas Windows 11 expands that to efficiency as well. While Windows 10 considers the E-cores as lower performance than P-cores, it doesn’t know how well each core does at a given frequency with a workload, whereas Windows 11 does. Combine that with an instruction prioritization model, and Intel states that under Windows 11, users should expect a lot better consistency in performance when it comes to hybrid CPU designs.” Link to full article here: https://www.anandtech.com/show/16959/intel-innovation-alder-lake-november-4th/3 Cheers, Søren DissingIntel i9-13900K @5.6-5.8 Ghz | ASUS ROG RYUJIN III | ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 OC | ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero | 64Gb DDR5 @5600 | 1Tb Samsung M.2 980 PRO (Win11), 1Tb Samsung M.2 980 PRO, | ASUS ROG Helios 601 | 32” ASUS PG32UCDM 240hz 4K | Chaseplane | TM TCA Captain's Edition, Winwing FCU + EFIS L/R, Tobii 5 | Win 11 Pro 64 | MSFS 2024 | BA Virtual | PSXT, RealTraffic w/ AIG models

April 14, 20233 yr There is a certain kind of online urban legend that lives on the internet; something like: if I upgrade my operating system/graphics card/whatever, the girl from The Ring is going to climb out of my monitor!
April 14, 20233 yr Author Starting this morning, when I restart my PC I am getting pop up messages from Microsoft trying to trick me into installing W11. Messages like " Would you like to install W 11 now or later". Sounds like a scammer from India. What a PIA. 😡

I'll stick w/ Win 10 until my next build which will be sometime just before Oct 14, 2025. Do we know if Win 11 will still be available for free at that point? NBD if not the cost of a copy of Win 11 will be a minor part of the total cost of a new build anyway. I didn't make it to the end and was struck by the better CPU, the 4090, and the fact with that workstation he's using DLSS and the initial frame rate comparison was a nothing burger. Does it get any better? I truly have perfect performance now, everywhere, so no way I would change to Win 11 and jeopardize that. I played this stupid game with Win 7 and hung on to it as long as practical before switching to Win10. Then ms "promised" that Win 10 would be the "last major version"--well how long did that last? It lasted until ms realized that they could once again increase their income by coming out with a new version and "forcing" customers to switch.. Again, I'm sticking with Win 10 as long as possible about Oct 14,2025. Currently msfs 2020 works great.
April 5, 20242 yr I'll be sticking with Win10 until I replace my Reverb G2, seeing as Microsoft for no good reason removed the ability to use WMR headsets in Win11. Particularly galling because now I have two G2's to replace, the sim one, and the "other VR games" one downstairs. I'm pretty sure the sim one will get replaced by a Crystal, but for the one downstairs, options are getting limited seeing as I refuse to give Meta any of my money. 😛 Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light
April 6, 20242 yr WIN11 was a Free upgrade on my 2 PC's. No problems to report. Is it still a Free Upgrade ? When does MS WIN10 Support end? Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW

April 7, 20242 yr Author I hate the UI of windows 11. We have several PCs at work with 11 on them, all the rest have 10. I see people avoiding the 11 units all the time. There has to be a reason why about 70% of windows users have stayed on W10.
