Maybe someone could create a competing service to flightsim dot to.

A good interface, with easy to upload and easy to download files.
Voluntary tipping to the website, as well to the uploaders.

"Buy me a cup of coffee if you love this aircraft" kind of service.
(I know flightsim dot do also has that function, but it's almost hidden at the bottom of the product page).

I don't know enough about web hosting services to do it myself.

There's already the likes of FlightSim.com and flyawaysimulation.com, although their UIs are not quite as nice.

FSTO was good as one site for everything, but however it happened it looks like that will no longer be the case.

I'm asking a question which you can't or refuse to answer, answer it or keep any presumptuous conclusions to yourself.

Why are you so inclined to spread one unfounded rumour after another?

This is not a rumor. In Germany, you can go to this address, and it has already been done by someone who I do not think is a rumor monger.

I honestly thought they registered a .to for the "to" like "go to" and not anything with the actual country of registration.

I've registered a few cute domain names just because I liked how the domain name and suffix went together.

Should have registered in Bahamas.  .BS

Short answer to a short question: None.
As already pointed out, all this fuss has nothing to do with the end user, though it would appear
that many who are only end users cannot help but share their opinions.

I´m wondering how the developers action to remove stuff from FS.TO is going to be advantadges to the user.

Well, if you are on about GotFriends, it was actually fs.to that booted them off.

If you mean the situation in general, it obviously won't be advantageous to the end user, but these people do their work for free, so I am thinking more about the developers, and less about me.

Regarding the ATR: I got an answer from the original modder (which converted the ATR FSX payware with permission), kychungdotcom:

"This is a special case, when I gave up this addon and I asked flightsim.to for deletion, they suggested me to transfer the ownership of this addon to them, and I permitted them for it, but only for the ATR"

So, also on this case a lot less drama then some hoped it is.

It's interesting to consider if GotFriends as professional dev team would have existed without having a platform like .to where their early work could get mass exposure and popularity and (AIUI) allow communication between the different devs who would come together to form the company.

If I look at GF discord the published a statement (feb 19th) that the remove their stuff from FS.to and after that (feb 22th) there is a statement that  they got cancelled. So as far as that time line is correct it's GF's choice to leave and it's payware

Do we have a comprehensive list of the developers who have actually left fsim.to?

I'm aware of GotFriends, Henrik Nielsen (GAIST) and vbazillo (KSEE etc.) have announced it. But I guess there were more who wanted to leave. Maybe also some of them have considered to stay after fsim.to made some concessions. What do we know?

I have seen an airport posted up since, so he may have changed his mind after the TOC's were being looked at.

It would be nice to stabilise things again, but I fear some won't go back.

It is interesting to consider, you are right.  I think they acknowledged the exposure as well, they just didn't like the way the future might go at FS.to in terms of the TOS's.
I am sure we are all fine with the subscription for the faster downloads, as these sites cost money.  It was just the TOS issue.

As for 'would they have had the same exposure?'.  No they wouldn't.  Or at least it would have taken longer at sites like Gamer's Nexus etc.
They would have got there in the end I think due to their talent and desire to create the aircraft - it just would have taken longer.  How much longer would be a complete guess.
