Virgin Orbit collapses...

Remember me to her.. she might give you some Spaceport Cornwall stickers if you mention my name. 😏

Yeah, Cornwall Spaceport is big on stickers.

Nothing you have posted, be it your diatribe about cynicism, the wholly irrelevant video of a man feeling seasick on a ferry or the laughable, two year old PR releases ( how is that 2022 launch of Dream Chaser going ?😃 )  you quote can deflect from the basic fact that a lot of public money has been spent for absolutely no tangible benefit whatsoever.

Indeed you could make the same statement about the whole Newquay airport complex.

Yes, the whole space/satellite idea is all very exciting but the public money spent to try and create an industry where none existed before would have been much better put towards mundane stuff like making the main trunk route into Cornwall at least a dual carriageway along it’s whole length or ensuring the rail link to Cornwall doesn’t get washed away every other year like it does at present.

This is worthwhile, tangible infrastructure investment.

The Cornish Spaceport? Virgin Orbit went the way of the Dodo today.  I have very little doubt the spaceport will follow shortly but it will be a quiet extinction to save red faces and reputations all round.

Cynicism is always bad!

I will always be cynical where govt. is concerned.  I have completely lost faith in it.

In a way I suppose you're right.  It is a bad thing, but I can't help it.  I've been let down, disappointed, and betrayed too many times.

The challenge it has had over the years (really, since Apollo) is managing and then executing on a coherent vision between changes of Administration, NASA administrators and (especially) the chairs of the various Congressional oversight committees.

Not to wade too far into politics, but SLS and its previous incarnations have been in large part due to Senators wanting to ensure a steady stream of high-paying engineering jobs into their state. It wasn't nicknamed the "Senatorial Launch System" for nothing.

I agree.  If govt. wasn't involved, NASA could have done so much more good stuff.

That wasn't anything to do with you. It was a different conversation with someone else, somewhat off topic.

We bow to your wisdom, your superior knowledge, your inside knowledge of all that goes on at Spaceport Cornwall, no doubt gleaned from your personal meetings with Mell, and above all else, your ability to predict the future. Thanks for sharing it with us.

And oh yes, I'll let Mell and Sierra Nevada know that the Dream Chaser thing isn't going to happen, because you said so, they will want to know that. It's a fine service you provide.

Here we all are standing knee deep in garbage landfills near our oceans full of plastic. Yet we have money to shoot rockets at the planets and funding projects to change the weather.

In other words we are fighting for team Mordor, and not for the Shire.

Here's Mel's latest broadcast with the Cornwall Space Shed in the background.

So far, there are no Youtube comments on this video. Don't you want to be the first?

Of course this was made before the news that Virgin Orbit now sleeps with the fishes.  To sum up; they've got a plastic rocket and their next launch is a sustainability steering group.

When she said "meeting our net zero goals" I totally changed my outlook on this whole venture.

I'm all in!

Where can I donate?

Literally can't tell if this is a joke or sincere. Poe's Law strikes again!

It is a shame that Richard Branson is not interested in funding Virgin Orbit any further. Imagine what would have happened to SpaceX if Elon Musk had done the same?

Let me clarify.

NASA is a govt. agency, so what I said sounds paradoxical.

What I meant is that if politicians, with their ignorance and selfish interests, weren't involved, NASA could have accomplished a lot more.
