I’m not sure what’s the difference between Micro ATX and Mini ITX but there are some creative people out there.

I just don’t see the logic of doing that.

I've always thought microATX and miniITX were MOTHERBOARD sizes, nothing to do with cases.

As such I see no reason why someone couldn't run a 4090 on a mATX or mITX motherboard.  It would just look kind of funny, and of course the case itself would need to be large enough to handle the 4090 length.

Why put a tiny motherboard in a case that can accommodate a larger one? What is being gained?

I have Be quiet Pure Base 500DX. 4090FE fits perfectly, even with 360mm AIO mounted in front (Arctic freezer II). Not sure about non reference GPUs, as these are much bigger. Also, no problem with side panel and that bulky Nvidia adapter.

LAN parties. When you gotta haul your rig about, bulkiness is important.

But sometimes it's for the challenge or simple bragging rights. Why did some chap put a Spitfire engine into a car; it's in no way practical, but it's cool and sometimes that's enough.

I find mATX builds perfectly logical for me simply because they're cheaper and neater but perform the same. The extras offered by a full size ATX board I don't use. And generally tower cases end up on my desks because of all the drawers I have underneath limits floor space, so I value the compactness. My case doesn't have any optical drive bays to make it smaller and quieter.

Try putting an E-ATX motherboard into an mATX case and see how far you get; yes it describes the size (form factor) of the motherboard, but cases are also described by the largest of those they can accommodate. My case is mATX although it has compatibility for a full ATX power supply (most mATX towers are like this).

Corsair 5000D.  There are 2 flavors but offer you about every configuration you could think of under the sun.  The slightly smaller 4000D would work as well.   I went with the 5000D because I was originally looking at getting a hybrid 4090, and I also have an AIO cooler for my CPU.

I can understand that but mine will be static.

You mean to tell me you're not LAN partying Ray?! Would seem exactly your sort of thing; I bet you're always on Call of Duty in between flights. Next you'll be telling me you're not into Deep House, you think I'll believe anything! The rave scene around Cheadle is mega I hear.

Nothing is being gained.  I'm just saying it could certainly be done.

For example I just purchased a Corsair 7000D Airflow case.  It's huge.   *NOT* a LAN party case.  A mATX motherboard would be a postage-stamp size in there.  But I could do it if I wanted to.

I like my Corsair 5000X case.  Support GPU's up to 420mm.

I use a 4080 though and no front cages (my card is 337mm)

If I was having an i7-13900K with its power draw I’d be concerned. But the AMD runs cooler so the smaller FE card shouldn’t be a problem.

Which AMD CPU are you going to settle for Ray? Just for PD3 right?

Cheers

Probably the Intel i9-13900K. It seems best for P3D. And I won’t be striving for the highest possible fps. 30 is fine for me which will allow maximum scenery setting plus lots of AIG Ai.
