Thanks for posting! So now that we have this bit of extra info, and going back to what I just posted about the cloud/service architecture of MSFS and supporting both MSFS 2020 and 2024 clients.. sounds like they plan to support both at least for some non-trivial amount of time after 2024 releases, so that either means:
a) 2020 clients get core and absolutely needed updates in order to keep working with the cloud services post the 2024 release, or..
b) MS/Asobo will be running two sets of cloud services

I think a) is the likely scenario.

I'll quote what you said.

" if all addons are 100 percent compatible from one to the other, that would mean that Asobo hasnt actually changed anything at all,"

This is a completely false statement and it flies in the face with literally everything Microsoft and Asobo have shown in the past three years. And no, all addons for FS2002 worked basically seamlessly in FS2004.

needlessly argumentative person:  read my whole post.  and quote my whole post if you insist on quoting me.

I gave two extreme cases, and then suggested that the likely outcome is in the middle.

Imagine if one reason for not opening the weather engine was because MS had an entirely new engine in development?

Same can go for ATC. Throwing in this talk of "AI" makes me think they completely revamped one of these areas.

Also speaking of AI, I wonder if they ditched BlackShark for something developed internally? Maybe they have new tricks related to photogrammetry. Will be exciting to hear more!

Only, the case you mentioned is obviously false, as the addons work but it's entirely possible that a *lot* has been changed around the addons, exactly as it happened in previous generations.

so what happen to all these airports that we bought through Orbx, Contrail, Fs Dreamteam. Simmarket, will they be transferrable in 2024 or do we have to buy them again ?

BOTH CASES ARE OBVIOUSLY FALSE.  you are latching on to one of them.  I can't even any more...  I used two extreme positions to posit, that neither is likely.

That would be up to the publishers of those addons

I can't imagine they have any authority to make you buy them again, the only thing they could do is disallow any non marketplace addons.  if there is still a community folder, and addons are still generally compatible,  I would think they would work.  They did take pains to mention that all "marketplace" addons would work, which could be for several reasons, but one of those reasons is potentially bad.

Hopefully they have a pre-release alpha/beta program like 2020

So now I'm wondering out loud... when MS/Asobo brought IL-2's lead engineer Sturmovik onboard, has whatever handiwork he's been up to since that time all going into the 2024 core sim FDE or other related areas? Hmmm 🙂

Also, the other areas they've spoken about in previous Q&A sessions as areas of big re-work planned to start or already started i.e. weather, ground handling, AI/ATC, etc.. those could all be slated for the 2024 release too (at least seasons seems to be a 2024 big ticket item).

Well they said most should work. I imagine things with heavy coding and sim connect made need updating based on whatever changes happened under the hood

so if all these addons which I bought for flight simulator 2020 will work for 2024, Ok that sounds fine, just don't want to start buying these airports all over again.
