Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 - Announce Trailer

Thats interesting, but from a technical side I dont get why this should prevent them from providing a decent injection method for 3rd party addons. It doesnt add server traffic if default live weather isnt used. REX tried but was noticeably limited.

I can't speak to that other than to say Mateo WX and FS are probably more closely tied together as one piece maybe, not really sure.  Either way, we still need a better solution much quicker than 2024.

No worry at all on my side if MSFS 2020 plane addons will be compatible with 2024, it will be, the marketplace will keep transaction. But not to sure about 3rd party addons from 3rd party vendors, will they play the game, or cash-in for minor changes?

As for paying 60-70$ for a new version, when the previous game gave us 500$+++ in WU alone for free, not a problem at all, they deserve it.

Win 10 has the position it does because so many PC can't handle 11.

I'm not quite sure that's what we're going to see here.

Not entirely true! I want a computer PC not a want-to-be apple computer full of apps. I run a X7950X3D with 4090 with DDR5 ram and run Windows 10 pro.

There's a good reason for that.  It's because it's not just on the FS side.  The WX engine also goes through Mateo's servers.  You can't a have a million plus users pinging both companies a million times per second.  It would take them both down.

IRC, they're trying to come up with a secure method (which they currently don't have).

They are very restricted due to the licencing agreement with Meteoblue to give much, if any, useful API or SDK access to 3rd parties. Only thing 3rd parties have been able to do is weather-theme tricks and thats going to be it I think.

Weird choice, I tried MSFS on both system with the same hardware, and it's running better on W11

Okay sure the backwards compatibility question has obviously been voiced. My curiosity is about the "significantly enhanced engine". However, I have at the moment low confidence in it because there was not a single mention of a feature / change related to the new engine in the video. So, that leads my skeptical self to the idea that "significantly enhanced" really is just hype for another slight evolution / refinement of the engine.

I want to know much more about that and then secondarily about the missions etc. Was disappointed there wasn't more about changes to the sim itself, not just profiling the missions (some of which did look interesting to me).

AMD 5830X

Nvidia RTX 3060

Win 11

Looks like everyone will be paying for fixes that should get worked on in 2020 along with the new eye candy, missions and what not.

Here are top more concerning question that yet to be clarified

1. MSFS2020 add on compatibility in the new sim?

2. Transition from 2020 to 2024. Can we upgrade existing sim to new?

3. MSFS 2020 lifecycle after 2024 release?

But that’s an entirely different version, it isn’t the same sim.

You do know that the owner of that company has boasted that the mobile version uses the same flight model, right?

Love how this new release is just about scenarios and not about flight simulation anymore. Clearly tells you where their priorities are and what FS2020 users are looking for.

Also let think about how announcement of MSFS2024  may cause stagnation of development and consumer readiness to invest to something that may soon  become obsolete. Definitely announcement went way ahead of good explanations and road map.

How can you tell?  Look back at MSFS2020 trailer! What could you tell back then about priories?

Add-on compatibility is key. I imagine all the high-end developers ( PMDG, Fenix, Just Flight, FBW, Flying Iron etc ) will be on the phone to Asobo first thing Monday morning. If compatibility is assured, I don't mind forking out for the new sim.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.
