Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 - Announce Trailer

The problem is exactly as you have stated it. Those wishing to use some of the addons they bought did so without the knowledge that, if they wanted to continue to use them, they could only use them in an out of date legacy sim. Or pay again for an updated version.

There are still people there playing FS2002/2004 because that’s where all their addons are.

There will probably still be people playing 2020 after 2024 comes out.

Pretty funny some suggest that the inclusions of missions is somehow gameifying the sim when all of those missions are real-world scenarios. It's like flying tubeliners is the only way to be a serious simmer for some reason.

 we were lead to believe our addons would be usable in a sim that is in active development for the next decade

Don't know who you are speaking for here, but I have never been lead to believe that by anybody.

The compatibility of addons can break with any update for any software. And it already happened with some of the SUs of MSFS, where certain addons needed to be updated.

I know. And I'll almost certainly buy 2024 unless it turns out to be purely a game. But allow me to grumble about the significant cost, not only for the sim, but for addon compatibility and possibly new hardware. Costs I was not expecting and which have come out of the blue! Literally no hint of a new sim from Asobo ever.

I can’t imagine the system requirements changing that much since it’s still on Xbox.

It won’t be anymore if a game than 2020 is

missions =/= game

Exactly this!

Something I don’t think anyone has pointed out, there a Cessna Caravan variant now without the cargo pod.

Well as long as I can turn off any scoring  and Achievements pop ups nonsense etc I won't care.

Scoring would probably only be in missions

I doubt you’ll be able to turn off achievement pop ups.

But I don’t understand the problem with either of those things.

I'm older than your farther and I loath them!😀 And I'm imagining the horror of loot boxes with free or paid engine upgrades! Or collect 100 Asobo tokens and your engines get turbo charged. 🤪

This announcement has convinced me to wait another year before deciding whether to join the MSFS bandwagon.
