What I hate about MSFS 2024...

Featured Replies

... is that this forum will most probably be congested by a lot of (pointless) speculation (and the expectable amount of moaning that comes with it) and other utterly useless posts (yes, like THIS one!) about something no one really knows anything about and which won't be released within a year (and probably longer).

I personally couldn't care less about MSFS 2024 at THIS moment. Why should I when I can actually enjoy MSFS 2020 as it is NOW? I really don't understand people are worrying about for instance the compatibility of their current addons... as if they can't be enjoyed anymore in MSFS 2020 from this moment on. Some people are already thinking about not buying anything for MSFS 2020 anymore... (Come to think of it: why did MS/Asobo release this trailer NOW already...? What were they word not allowed thinking?!?)

But sorry, now I am starting to do what I just said I hated about MSFS 2024 LOL

Maybe AVSIM would be so kind to open a dedicated MSFS 2024 forum so we won't have to deal with all that word not allowed and we can simply enjoy and talk about the sim we DO have at this moment...? TIA. Very much appreciated. 😉

While  understand your point Tup, I think it misses the main one...  There are still a number of issues in MSFS2020 to be resolved, so when MS launch 2024, will they and Asobo continue to address these issues, or will they slow down or stop to concentrate on 2024, as I cant see them running two parallel development teams.

So the worry is, people who stick with 2020 will be in a dead-end sim with no further development of things like AI traffic and ATC etc. (just examples - there are plenty more issues as we know).

In many minds there will always be "issues" to resolve.

P3D and Xplane are decades into development, and there are still daily threads in their respective subforums about perceived problems/shortcomings; often ones that border on minutia except to the very hardest of the hardcore.

MSFS2020 and even 2024 have little chance of being any different in this regard.....

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Agreed. I'm sick of all the speculation and negativity already, so until then I'm mainly over at the aircraft section of the official forum which I have to say is a little better organised than here!

I get your point but your post is exactly what I was talking about: speculation about something no one knows yet and even if someone DOES know more about it, we will all still be flying in MSFS 2020 at least up to the moment MSFS 2024 has been released somewhere in 2024... so... why worry NOW already and post about it? 😉 At THIS very moment MSFS 2020 is NOT a dead-end sim...! So let's enjoy what we have got now! Which is a great and imho utterly AWESOME sim called MSFS 2020. We'll deal with MSFS 2024 once it has been released. And until then I would prefer all posts about MSFS 2024 to NOT pollute this MSFS 2020 forum. 😉

See my recent post https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/634877-microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-announce-trailer/?do=findComment&comment=4972817 .. so if it ends up being the case that some/most/all the long-standing issues are only addressed in 2024, and that 2024 strives to make existing add-ons work seamlessly or with little change (as per the FAQ), and that 2024 is a superset of 2020, then is that really a bad situation if the only negative is to pay $60/$90/$120 more to get the 2024 base sim? I certainly don't think that having to pay this fixed amount for the sim every few years is a huge negative, especially if it means I get all the latest tech and fixes + features, as well as add-ons compatibility because they strive not to upend the SDK/APIs or change them in non-trivial ways.

I think the biggest surprise for most of us is the announcement about a new MS/Asobo standalone flight simulator at a time people are still waiting for pending improvements of the current MSFS2020. All the rest (forward compatibility, update policy if any, continuous development of the current simulator, etc.) are reasonnable points to be concerned about, but it seems we all will have some time to have our own conclusions.

Hmmm.  I only see discussion.  What a forum is for.  If people perceive it as moaning they can always just skip over it.

Personally I am not too worried about things, and I think 2024 is a positive development and progression, but there are some pertinent questions to be asked.
I think we will get our answers over the next few weeks, it is just that MS seem to be a bit behind the curve.

I'd say it's those of us who easily make assumptions without waiting to hear facts and/or more details, and go just by the first 2 minute teaser trailer that dropped for an XBox showcase event. Those pending improvements could well be coming in the 2024 release (and that is likely since Asobo have said multiple times in the past Q&As that larger rework is ongoing for ground handling, weather, ATC, etc). And no, IMHO they are not obliged to provide all improvements and new-tech features for free perpetually, especially if they are striving to maintain add-ons compatibility between versions as they've confirmed in the FAQ.

I agree with OP that the best solution to keep everyone happy would be a dedicated MSFS2024 forum. Plus, it'd seem to be a sensible since the "sequel" has now been officially announced.

I don't believe MS2024 is a fundamental change in the product such that whole re-writes of sections need to happen.  My guess is that everything they are doing to resolve issues w/ 2020 will apply to BOTH sims.  For example as they work thru improving ATC those improvements will apply to both sims.

Imho the most disturbing thing is this:

There was a an announcmenent but the details are not known.

What would a grown up person do? Wait until the required information is available and then draw a conclusion.

What happened here? People filled the information gaps with the worst possible assumptions and acted as if they would be true.

Guys, there is no point in getting angry, nervous or offensive before any of these alleged issues would be confirmed from MS side.

It concernes me, that so many are willing to fill the lacking information with negativity rather than wait until the picture becomes clearer. Patience is so much more healthy than vexation.

You can rest assured, that all these questions will be 100% clarified before you will need to decide anything.

Get accustomed to the idea, that more and more information will become available over the next 10 months, not the next 10 days.

For now, it is sufficient to know, that the current experience will be frozen but anyway stay available (<= that this is mentioned in the MS faqs is a novelty, because any older sim like FSX implicitely remains available too. For MSFS2020, this is newsworthy because in order to keep-the-lights-on, we need the confirmation that the cloud infrastructure will remain available). And if you want a better base experience than MSFS2020, you will have to buy it.
