Seasons no longer 'started'

Featured Replies

Under wishlist, seasons has been 'started' for a while now. Not anymore. The FS2024 trailer showed seasons, so this is a strong suggestion that seasons won't make it to 2020.

Maybe they have got to prioritise some other section of 2020 first. I see it's still planned.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung  NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive

I mean seasons are coming with 2024, not sure why they would bring it to 2020 as well?

Seriously, I still wonder how many resources were "wasted" in the development of MSFS 2024 that could have been used in bug fixing in MSFS 2020 as such that many bugs would have already been fixed in the last 2 years... We will never know...

Jorg and MS likely realized they could monetize feature requests and thus the most requested items will now cost us all money in form of MS2024.

It's a moot point because you can always boil every single thing they do down to 'could they have spent those resources on something I wanted?' and secondly, would those resources even have existed and been allocated if they didn't have some greater end goal, like further monetization, increasing audience or otherwise? MSFS could be on a skeleton crew, to simply maintain the sim at operational status, meaning no resources to fix anything or add features and no development of new DLC nor MSFS 2024.

Just focusing in on this seasons wishlist feature item, and how MS/Asobo were working on it and had it marked as "Started" and recently moved it to "Planned" kind of indirectly shows their evolution in thinking and decision of planning a new base sim release in 2024. In that, it must have been a recent decision to do a 2024 release, and that aligns with what the head of MS/Xbox studios says in https://youtu.be/ZszOBVoREVg?t=8535 , i.e. some of the feature improvements they were working on became big enough to warrant a new release (graphics, weather, flight dynamics, seasons, etc).

Of course it'd be also ideal to put in a feature like seasons into 2020 still and earlier than the 2024 release, but if seasons requires more foundational feature improvements like graphics and/or weather let's say, then that'd mean only 2024 will have them (unless most/all of 2024 improvements are given for free to 2020 which then means no point in having a 2024 release at all). I have a feeling the new 3D trees seen in the 2024 trailer also is a pre-requirement for seasons to be fully realized.

isn't seasons a highly requested feature?

I don't think any resources were "wasted" on 2024, as I don't think LM wasted resources developing version 5 and not investing more into version 4; LR investing into X-Plane 12 and not fixing more things with 11. Not that different than purchasing a new updated scenery, which I have done a number of times over the years.

The platform, which is the best for flight simulation that I have experienced, is continuing to develop and it makes complete sense to me that at some point you begin working on features and functions that are substantive enough to say this is now a new version and requires a new purchase. It seems this is what was done and it seems like an organic decision that emerged from their efforts to keep updating the sim; there was no wasted effort, the effort just led to a point when management determined these features define a new version. All of this development needs to be financed to continue, or it will just stop like FSX. I feel I got more than enough value out of the 60 dollars I spent for the standard version nearly 3 years ago and that this step is warranted.

I am excited for a new version, the same excitement I had when FS2000 came out and I moved from FS98; from 2000 to 2002, from 2002 to 2004 and to FSX in 2006.

When FS2020 was released I remember that they stated that we would not only receive free updates but also paid updates.

No one is that naive to think that we would pay 1 time and then receive continues updates and improvements for 10 year ….

At least most of us here are not …. 🤠

Regarding "Seasons", are people talking about the changing vegetation and terrain according to the time of the year?. Aren't they already covered in MSFS2020 by external programs like REX AccuSeasons or Bijan?. To me, any of those two make really a good work.

Sorry for the question, but maybe I'm confused.

Cheers, Ed

I mean c'mon! If you are happily willing to pay for RTX4090 more than 2000$ and now you are getting stingy after 4 years to pay 50$ again which they promised it will contain more features?
I mean people here are forgetting something, Microsoft doesn't give a word not allowed about a game or simulator, if a game doesn't produce a good $$ at end of the quarter sheet, they will just go ahead, scrap it and layoff the whole teams behind it (they have done it already so). So if you want the franchise to continue, you have to support it like how you'd support 3rd party developers (oh actually they are both related),

It's not fully clear what they mean by seasons, yet. What AccuSeasons does is basically paint the trees different colors but what Asobo was initially talking about was seasons that changed all vegetation, sky coloring, water freezing, fauna migration, etc. The question is how much of this they have done for 2024. But I for one will be happy to have seasons incorporated and not need a separate program.
