Weather Poll

Default.  Live weather is very good already but likely to iteratively improve further, and at least you can have SOME. manual control of the weather.  If there were a 3rd party that allowed precise manual weather (to include a visibility value) I'd be all over it, but so far the 3rd party providers are just presets.  I really don't see the value in them.

Default, but could well use Active Sky if available one day...

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

The announcement of MSFS 2024 gives me good hope!

The default weather is quite random but for me it's the least bad even. I expect a lot on this side with MSFS 2024.

I would like it to be visually of this minimum quality on each flight.

If Weather SDK was open, by far REX Weather Force would be the best option as clouds formation and shapes looks more realistic even that Default visually is more dynamic and cinematographic. Rex is getting better on each update but still cant beat Asobo Default Live Weather. Also after many flights with Weather Force my ASUS 4090 was working ultra hard with 100% gpu usage and temps near 70c on each weather change transition, while on Default i am always between 50-60c max.  So the winner here is clear : Default Live Weather

Storm setting definitely better than default as far as visuals go! Love that TBM sound!

Default. Missing historic weather though...

Is there anyone using XEnviro at all? I'm not close-fisted but given the prize I am not inclined to just buy it for testing.

I use presets or real weather from the sim.

Kind regards, Michael

If you can get Xenviro as a substitute for live weather, and at a discount like I did ( I had it in X plane 11) it’s a good alternative I find. Useful and quite accurate nowadays either when live weather isn’t working or when live weather generates frozen lakes and thick snow in summertime

I am using xEnviro most of the time as it does the best job of producing realistic skies.  It produces clouds that default weather or Rex cannot.  For a global weather app, I have been impressed how xEnviro handles transitions between weather areas.  I have been happy to 'put up with' it's global weather because of what it does well.

Of course, default weather is the only option if showing local weather is most important to you.

I am trying to find what the condenses is on everyone's most used weather preference for MSFS.

I have used the MSFS weather, Rex Weather Force and XEnviro.   What if those were your only choice would you most likely use?

MSFS Live weather. I don't feel the need to buy a payware addon, it works well enough for me.

Default. None of the third party solutions have proper full access to manipulating the weather, so it's all just a crowbarred in solutions with limitations. No need to waste money on that.

I don't agree.  My personal criteria for weather is maximum variation and realistic cloud representation.  I personally do not require weather in the sim to match perfectly with what is outside the window.  I will agree MSFS default weather is very good, and if there were no addon weather products I would be happy.  However, both REX Weatherforce and xEnviro can produce more varied cloud types than default live weather. Default live weather has a local weather model, where the addons use a global model (MSFS restriction at present). So if seeing distant weather, or differing weather in different direction is top of your wishlist, MSFS default weather is your only choice.

Describing REX or xEnviro as 'crowbarred solutions' seems odd to me because I just want to see good looking clouds in the sim!  I would drop a couple of points from xEnviro for local weather model and less smooth transistions than default, but I would give those points back for more varied cloud types that look more realistic than default.

My vote goes to all weather options, with a personal preference to xEnviro.

Well, xEnviro has historic weather, so at least there is an option.
