Guess I've been lucky!

This is the most stable sim I've ever experienced.

All of my 3 CTDs were addon related...

Well... I had been lucky up to now as well.  No CTD's for ages.  But this is a 'sim will not start' issue, not a CTD.  Seems to be some clash between the GPU drivers (as that was the only change from a fully working state), and the Xbox / Gaming services app.  All very strange, time consuming, and frustrating.  I ended up playing The Expanse for a an hour before I went to bed instead!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Sorry to see you in such a predicament. From the release, the MS Store version has had similar problems...

On Saturday, the Gaming services was updated  on my Windows 10 jalopy.

Could  there be an identification problem  ? It couldn't start because it wouldn't recognize you ? Some games don't like  a major change of hardware, thinking that the game has been duplicated to another computer...

I hope MS Devs learn from all of this and allow archive installs and what not when MSFS2024.  What a freaking F$$$ time waste on redownloading the darn sim again all 170GBs!!! Seriously, heads need to roll on this one; fire the person(s) who pushed it whatever update they did on their end.

Also need to have better documentation on how to fix this...what is confusing is I have 2 different avenues to install the sim.  One from MS Store and other from Xbox app (why!!!).  When the insert disc error was happening, I only uninstalled the digital rights management on Xbox app but somehow it uninstalled the entire sim!!!

I can't even find the digital rights management on MS Store for some reason.

Xbox app installed MSFS official in a different directory.  MS Devs please hire an experienced person who understands UI design (steal an employee from Apple).

Worst total time waste process that I have to go through.

Yes, thanks Dominique.  This could indeed be a problem.

Some things I have read point to an issue with digital rights.  I am home now and will start working down my list, starting with a completely cleaned out driver and installing a new one from DDU.

Rebooting into safe mode now.  If you never hear from me again you know something bad has happened!

Slightly off topic but I just booted up MSFS for really the first time in a long time and now I have a white circle at the center of the screen at random, and the cockpit instruments get a white outline whenever I pan around, if I move the cursor while panning it slows the panning by 90%, and the menu item bar shows up whenever the mouse is moved. it's all really just sloppy..

What is happening with this sim? Can't it just have a simple cursor like every other game?

What is happening with this sim?

They have focused for months on improving the flight modeling architecture and the avionics with some success. A huge brownie point here.

On the other hand, they have neglected the general scenery/satellite imagery which deteriorates (except for the WU) and let regressive UI bugs accumulate (including VR).

The white frames and dot seem a noise coming from the xbox code. I see them very briefly and rarely but some users have them constantly. I surmise that it depends of the aircraft you fly  and if you have used or still use a Xbox controller.

The mouse triggering the menu bar is here from the start. Xbox obliges I suppose. It is ludicrous but they seem to like it.

I was actually thinking of making a post, but since we're here... I've noticed lately that there is a lot more scenery/object popping. White borders around screens and the white dot pointer. Thin black lines pop up around airports and sometimes off coasts. It really seems like MSFS, at least for me, is taking a dive. In the past, I didn't notice so much of scenery popping at certain distances, but I just flew out of SLC and buildings were popping up pretty close to the aircraft. I'm sure they'll fix these issues (the white border around screen and disappearing mouse pointer is the most maddening) but it certainly is taking the enjoyment out of the sim for me.

It seems that the MS Store version has always been problematic.

No problems here w/ the MS Store version which includes the initial install in Aug 2020 and two subsequent reinstalls proceeded w/o a hitch, controller settings always retained.

Most of the issues may well be due to the ms store don't know as I have never used the steam version, thanks all many  good replies here and of course the usual reply you are all idiots from one,lol wouldn't be avsim with that

I thought that for a little while and it turned out to be a region poorly done.  I'm struck by how sharp and plausible it is currently for me most areas look as good as ever.  I'm using 4x legacy DSR factors which probably helps.

I think it's an urban myth in large part.  Early on a ran a poll here because of complaints about the Store version.  Squeaky wheels make a lot of noise...

MS Store version here.

Just did a flight from KLAX to KBUF. Sadly I exceeded the 1000 simobject limit before arriving in KBUF and all of the ground textures were 480p with no buildings or AI (but I could hear their engines / ATC calls) and the runway was just low res painted grass. Also I had a memory leak because I went from 30 FPS locked at the Inibuilds LAX to ~1 FPS at the default KBUF. 😥

I did manage to land the Fenix with a -60 ft/min touchdown with 1 fps though. I'm actually kind of proud of that. 😂

Today had the single most problems I've ever seen since I purchased MSFS202. Only thing I did today was download a bunch of World Updates I never installed. I'm sure I'll figure it all out.

I have to resist the assumption it's something on my end.  I think a lot of weird random and thankfully rare performance woes coming out of nowhere are on the server side.  IOW, be patient if you can it will probably resolve itself in a fairly short time.
