I literally have no idea what you're getting at.

it was just a bit of derisive self-mockery to which you answered very seriously 😉. Grafting a 4090 on my 4770 would be something, don’t you think ?

Must really be difficult being software/game developer these days...

Often, users blame the developers/games for being unstable or badly developed, when it's actually their system, which is to blame. System corruption due to virus/malware, corrupt system files, un-updated OS or drivers etc, which is to blame for their issues.

But of course, it's never the customers system or actions. It's much easier and convinient, to blame someone else. It must be someone else's fault.

Well that is a bit harsh.  I do follow your point of view, but like I said, everything else works ok.
Windows 11 with all apps, and about 14 other games / tiles installed through Steam, from the latest Expanse game (Though the Epic installer) to TrainSim, to the really old Company of Heroes.   It is just MSFS that has fallen over on its own.  So yes, must be my fault!

@Lucky38i  Yes, a clean install of the latest drivers.  536.67.   The MSFS error message seems to indicate a digital permissions issue through the Xbox app.  This has caused problems before for some users, but never for me before.  I dare say I can fix it eventually, but thanks for your reply.  I will post the solution when I find it.

right so we are to blame if the insert cd message comes up out of the blue and then the sim completely resets to default

Have the store version. It used to do occasional heart stopping things, like failing to pick up my community folder when it launched.

However, it's certainly been more stable over the last year or so - or, apparently I've been more stable😎 - but I've also recently had the insert CD thing, sorted by restarting my PC and every once in a while it decides to change my graphic settings for no apparent reason.

I'd usually agree with this point of view (well in fact I do to a certain extent), but for this Simulation and with MS/Asobos track history since release the finger points more towards them than the users.

Of course us users do have a responsibility to check our own systems first before throwing toys out the pram, that unfortunately doesn't happen much and I see it with practically every game/simulation I've ever followed over decades. It's just easier to blame someone else, that's today's society generally.

Although with MSFS2020 the "insert CD" error, the wiping of controls, CTDs associated with a complete vanilla install, multiple login issues with Xbox necessity for PC users, poor Xbox performance etc suggests that the Devs haven't got a full grip on what they're coding. Hence the new sim where they can almost start again, change things up and hopefully learn from the mistakes that they have made these past three years.

If we get the same nonsense with MSFS2024 then that finger will be prodding the Devs, not just pointing at them.

I also had the "please insert game disk" error today. It took me quite a while to repeatedly sign out and in of ms game store and x-box app until it finally worked again. Seems like MSFS has these stupid hickups from time to time ...

I had the same issue and guess what  - in tinkering with it, I had to redownload my entire sim again.  Wasted my time and my bandwidth.

Maybe you should change the title of this thread to: “ MSFS MS Store version is a pain “ , because in the steam version I have never seen, nor have I heard them report any of the issues mentioned in this thread.

I don't  Marc if I may 😇. We are here to help each others  and send messages to Asobo and team about what could be improved. Certainly not to diss other users as whiny nitwits who can't take responsibility for their own mistakes.

I am now battling a 'game will not start' message from the Xbox app.  I can't get in at all.  Not uncommon apparently, but the list of things to try is quite long.

All I did was swap my graphics card and install the latest drivers, and fragile little MSFS has fallen over again!

Everything else works fine...  COH, Cyberpunk, The Expanse, it's just MSFS.

Someone else mentioned DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller). Here is a great vid that I reference when I install a new nVidia GPU driver:

MSFS runs very well on my 2 view pc’s. Had sometimes a CTD in the past but always because of a NVidia updated driver that needed a fix.

I guess because I use Prosim that runs outside of MSFS is also a great help ….

I am not at home now but I may be fishing for help later if I am still struggling.

My sequence of events...  Ran MSFS one last time in a set scenario to test fully working, but mainly to take a reading of the power draw to compare against the new card.
Whole system, 13900k with 3080Ti was 640W at 4k ultra, trying for 60FPS just as a reference. Running at an average of 85% ad 83C using DLSS balanced mode.  (and Quite noisy )

Switched off computer, turned off at mains after fully shut down, took out 3080Ti, inserted 4080 (all very easy, just added a support jack included in the box).

Made all connections (including double checking the new style 4080 connector was properly in place).  Fired up the PC.  All good.  Did a few checks on the included GPU software to see all was good.

Flushed shader cache as I set MSFS to restart in DX12 so I could use frame generation.  Also set HAGS mode in windows as required for this.

Went straight into MSFS and loaded the same scenario.  Perfect.  Full 60FPS with just DLSS at 100% vsync.  It also ran TAA with FG at 100% vsync.  Also at 50% vsync (Which one should I use?)  I thought maybe 50% vsync will give 30FPS, then the FG will double it to 60.  Seemed the same to me anyway as my 4k monitor can only do 60Hz max.

It was generally super fluid, but noticed some strange skipping / stuttering.  Found out (by Googling) this was due to having Vsync switched on in Nvidia Control panel as well as in the sim.  So I turned it off in NVCP, and everything else was set to 'application controlled' also.

Went back into the sim, same scenario, perfect!  60FPS, super fluid, and the skipping was gone.  Really pleased - result, just what I wanted, and it didn't take a 4090 to get there.  Power draw with the 4080 in the system was down to just over 500W!  GPU utilisation was still high, but temperatures were down to 60C and the fans are silent (I bought a version with Noctua fans on it).

So all good and really pleased with it.  My drivers were from a few month ago, so I downloaded the latest (536.67) and selected 'clean install', and everything went well.

I rebooted for good measure, Windows started fine, I gave the PC a minute to settle and double clicked on the MSFS icon to start it.  After about 10 seconds, it went to 'syncing data', the a screen popped up saying the sim refused to start and gave an obscure error code (which I will paste in here later).  This was from the Xbox app - it had green highlighting.

I have looked on line, and it is not uncommon but the solutions given are specific to the code, as you would expect.

Up to now, have have reinstalled the drivers again, logged out of the Xbox app, reinstalled that, then logged back in and done all updates.  Done similar with Gaming Services, rebooted countless times in between, still no joy.

First thing to try tonight - Try a proper uninstall of drivers / GPU registry settings as suggested by @Lucky38i and @HUSSAR, and one guy managed to get his working by installing the studio drivers rather than game ready drivers.  What a saga!  If anybody can tell me what I have done wrong, or offer any advice, please let me know.  As I stated previously, every other app or game is working fine - superbly actually, as would be expected with a 40 series card.

Sounds like a good plan, I would use DDU https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html and run it in safe mode, restart into normal mode, then try getting the latest Geforce Experience from Nvidia.

Sincere thanks - will do!

Guess I've been lucky!

This is the most stable sim I've ever experienced.

All of my 3 CTDs were addon related...
