Asobo — Please fix these weather bugs before MSFS2024

Featured Replies

Yes, that is absolutely *WHY* I say I'm sad and terribly disapointed *and NOT at all angry*

Asobo/Microsoft made an Absolutely FANTASTICALLY BEAUTIFUL SIM 🥰🥰🥰🤩🤩😱👍👍, at launch or at early tech-alpha ... Microsoft/Asobo They complely CHANGED GAME and gave a new Era of Sim-Magic and completly REBOOTED THE Flightsim GENRE...

They now need to re-release that Beaty AGAIN... and NOT MESS IT UP AGAIN(fall back to old sins of regressing the sim).... 😵💫

I hope we can post questions and vote for them for the upcoming Q&A. This would be a good topic and I‘m sure it‘d get quite a lot of votes. As you nicely showed, they‘ve been kicking this particular can down the road for a long time now. But to be honest, I don‘t have high hopes for improvements soon. I just hope MSFS2024 will surprise us.

The other topic I‘d like to be discussed is aerial tile-swapping.

Yeah I hope they will allow questions on the weather, and also agree 100% on the tile loading, it is a mess and seems very prevalent in some areas.

I hold little hope for the weather being better in MSFS 2024, you can see in the trailer they are the same clouds, so it will be ugly and unrealistic yellow volcanic ash/cauliflower clouds again. I hope I am wring but I don't expect to be.

Here is a real world example of how it almost gets it right but I'm guessing the data set is very coarse.

1630 Pacific time.  I snapped this real world photo of a large line of storms east of Tucson.  As you can see it's a pretty good well organized complex with high cloud tops. This picture is looking due east From I-19 and Sahuarita Road.

The Doppler Radar, shows that individual buildups and the associated echoes can be easily seen.

MSFS Live Weather depiction did make an attempt but as per usual something in the data set just does not depict large thunderstorms.

Just visually, using the sliders in the weather maker I was able to get a depiction I would be quite happy with. So it's obvious the weather engine can depict this kind of weather, it just doesn't.

So then rummaging around Meteoblue I found this. It is the depiction of clouds and precip., As you can see it is very coarse but matches what I'm seeing in MSFS pretty well. That blob of rain to the southeast is depicted almost exactly like this data set.

I really wish they would open the Live Weather up to 3rd party developers.  They promised much and fell short, time for someone else to try.

The MSFS2020 "Live Weather" as a whole bears an incredible resemblance to nothing.

My post is definitely not for scientists who use MSFS2020 as a ride once a week when their wives allow them.

3 years for that. Here's what's not working for me:

Shape of clouds .Transparency of clouds.Colors of clouds.Luminosity of clouds.Varieties of clouds.Shadows of clouds between them. Sky color.Ground light beam.Ground shadows clouds. Exaggerated dark visibility. Dazzling horizon.Turbulence. Wind speed.Wind direction.Temperature. Rain on the ground. Snow cover. Icing. Weather server failures.

It is for me a total draft without any balance.

I would retain some beautiful images above the cloud layer.

Then, why bother wasting your precious time?

I certainly wasted less time with my analysis of MSFS2020 live weather than you wasted yours responding to my comment. It is in these short moments of exchange that I realize that there are as many different respectable analyzes as unnamed cloud shapes in MSFS2020.

All roads lead back to SU5 and Asobo having to force their - rather magnificent - creation into the limitations of the Xbox environment.

Fingers crossed for MSFS 2024…..

Their history is creating games for Xbox, it's no wonder therefore they struggled to align the two and the result was the mess that was SU5.

I hope, nay pray (even though I'm not religious!) that with their additional extra staff they've hired that their expertise on coding for the PC increases, as it's clear to me they need vast improvement (see the nonsense mouse related issues as a prime example of not knowing what they're doing).

My fingers are also crossed for MSFS2024, but my expectations are being kept very very low.

Please can we not blame everything on Xbox? This issue cropped up because of their attempt at integrating METARs. We've already recognized that the sim's clouds have always been highly optimized. It's easy to just explain the issue away by blaming it on Xbox but there's no evidence to back that up. Metar integration screwed up their algorithm. Since then they've fixed the CB cloud mess that created. All they have to do now is adjust cloud opacity and we'll have a MUCH better experience.

Honestly there needs to be TWO different versions...One for PC and one for XBOX. Now this would require a lot more resources to make this happen.

And a massive waste of resources because it doesn't need to happen.

Totally agree, but I fear they lack the know how.

It was only because Microsoft/Asobo saw big profits to be made through an Xbox version that MSFS exists at all.
