How I feel towards P3D now

Another think that is stopping me from moving to v6 is I don't want to deal with the registry hack to get things working in v6.

Nor do I and this is why I am not uninstalling version5. To keep those addons that require me to. Many addons require nothing more than copying files from V5/simobjects/ airplanes and pasting them to the corresponding version6 files. Many good freeware planes that are a lot of fun. I used the A2A installer to install those aircraft into the Documents/version6 addon folder and they work fine. You can use the scenery library to just hook up some of the sceneries to the version five install without having to reinstall them. Some but not all.  LM said version six was meant to be more of a scenario-based training sim and it shines for this purpose. Practicing stick and rudder skills, pattern work or navigation without dealing with the performance kick from worrying about a bunch of addons that may or may not want to play together. Or the time spent planning and starting them. I've been having a lot of fun am glad I repurchased after turning it in for a refund after the first three days of use the first time around.😏

Out of curiosity, and although I did buy ASP3D6, I think I read somewhere that weather in V6 allowed by default to get real world weather data? Maybe METAR only but I didn't find how in the menus?

I may be wrong but I don’t think you can download real world wx. Having said that it’s fun making your own weather scenarios even changing on the fly. I’ve purchased chaseplane professional and will pick up ASP3D6 next month and don’t intend to spend anymore for Addons for version 6. Enough backward compatibility I don’t need to. P3DV5 will be my full fat sim.

If I had a cent for every time I said this to myself for flight sims, I'd be rich by now.

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

I have V6 with ASNv6 weather and the dash8-400 as my only add on aircraft so far installed. I don't want to deal with the registry hack but i am interested which aircraft can simply be copied from the V5 simobjects. For me I am quite pleased with the V6 more so than V5 but i have so much tied up in add ons I won't be uninstalling V5 any time soon.

I've had msfs2020 since the beginning but it seems I have spent as much time trouble shooting as I have flying and the updating process is a pita to me plus compared to XP11 & 11 it is almost cartoonish, again imho.

I hope ORBX eventually provides installers for V6 even if there is a small charge applied to cover their costs in the transition. It would also be great for ORBX to do the same for XP12.

As a long term FSL customer who really likes their products and has all of them, very happy with customer support,  I had planned to buy the new Concord but now am on the fence deciding if I want to spend $100+ Cdn for another V5 add on that sounds like it will not make the jump eventually to V6. It does sound like it is making the jump to msfs.

As to those aircraft that are copy and past to V6 perhaps someone can post a list.

Here's mine so far: The Aeroplane Heavan freeware birds downloaded through ORBX Central. I copied the files from my ORBX Library and pasted them in the V6\simobjects\airplanes folder. Work fine.

Several freeware aircraft I got from the Fly away simulation site including the aerocomander 500, Boeing C97' Convair 340, and DC7 and a Beech18. These are very well-done freeware planes with good graphics, sound packages, working in V 6 and the price is right.🙂 Had a lot of fun with these. Also not to forget the Manfred Jan C47.

I have the pay ware JF Curtess C46 I installed in V6 simply by pointing the installer.

Beware some of these may have gauge files that need to be placed in the appropriate place. I'm sure there are others but study level payware no. I keep those on V 5.

It was never LM's intent to compete with MSFS and probably never will be.

The billion dollar company has other more profitable revenue streams. :>)

Better check those numbers.

LM Corp Market Capitalization:  113.59 BILLION

MS Corp Market Capitalization:  2.4 TRILLION

LM is just peanuts compared to MSFT.

Asobo can only dream to be LM.

Flight simulation is by definition just a flight of imagination and just a 'dream'. So as a matter of fact, Asobo can not only dream, but they do also in fact create dreams.  🙂

MS > MS FS

LM > Prepar3D

MS and LM are two completely different organisations designing and building completely different products.

LM mostly targets the designing and building of aircraft and associated weapons systems for government and defence.

MS is mostly business and game related software.

I'm sure LM do use MS software like the MS Azure cloud and desktop / office software (as does almost every western based business) although I doubt they would use Windows as the OS of an F-35 jet 😉

I bought P3Dv6 and ASPv6. This weekend I decided to ask for a refund. Although I think the platform itself has enough potential, support from addon developers is essential for me. And then specifically ORBX. When ORBX decides to make P3Dv6 installers for their products I might buy it again. For now I enjoy P3Dv5.4. With the next REX sale I will buy skyforce. I've seen some pretty good reviews using it in conjunction with v5.

How did you NOT KNOW about the lack of support from commercial developers before you bought??

Even a cursory glance over this forum would have yielded this info.

I think LM will refund within 14 days, not too sure about HiFi Sim.Tec. though.

I did know about the lack of support. It's just that I wanted to see P3Dv6 just out of the box. Like I said I think it's a platform with enough potential. I hoped ORBX would have shared a roadmap for bringing their producs to v6. Although their CEO has told us that they are considering it, we haven't heard anymore the last weeks. When ORBX will bring their products to v6 so I can install and manage it from ORBX central, then I buy it again. But I won't bet on it, ORBX is really doing this.

I'm gladly on P3dv6 *only*, and will wait there for good developers to offer their products...

Together with Active Sky P3dv6 it's the way to go ! if you can't afford a full flightsim...
