August 26, 20232 yr After seeing Rogen's pictures, viewing his videos ((197) These Turbulent Times - Prepar3D - YouTube), and checking out Xtreme Prototypes' Learjet (Latest | Xtreme Prototypes), this is how I feel toward P3D now. 🙂 (195) “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in…” Michael Corleone (Al Pacino” Godfather Part 3 - YouTube Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space. August 26, 20232 yr I agree with you, I jumped to xp11 after 4.5, wasn't sure where p3d was going. I had a lot invested. I won't dare say how much. When v6 came out I jumped on it and im glad I did. I seem to spend more time now in p3d and once in a while xp12. I have had the gl25 since v2 and was my goto plane right after pmdg 737. Unfortunately looks like qw 787 which I own isn't moving on past 4.5. sad was such a good product. PPlus I have a lot of the A2 planes which I love. And the MJC8 Q400 what a sweet plane. Most of these survived the jump from 4.5 to 6 Plus a whole pile of others and all the orbx stuff. So here I am back to p3d. And I like being here.
August 26, 20232 yr After deciding to give it a second try I reinstalled V6 and I believe the default scenery looks so much like ORBX Global with NA Land class I wonder if it is. The roads and shoreline vector looks so good I just don't see the need for any scenery addons except some favorite airports. My 5.4 is so bogged down with layers of scenery addons it takes 15 to 20 minutes to load from the start of the splash screen. For the time being I'm going to keep P3DV6 lean and lite for playing around with GA and retro prop planes. I don't see any need for texture or shader addons either. And yes, the aircraft handling (flight dynamics) is amazing. I'm keeping version 5.4 for my tube liner serious 😏simming. Vic green
August 26, 20232 yr You must be seeing something different. Looking at vids it looks average at best. I’ve had multiple people tell me to avoid it.
August 26, 20232 yr For me 5.4 would still be required because of the FSLabs buses, and now maybe also the Concorde ... August 26, 20232 yr I agree! I bought P3Dv5 (moved on from FSX) a couple of weeks back and I am truly enjoying it. I loved the fact I did not need to repurchase everything (Orbx, etc. carrying over). August 26, 20232 yr This is a "rare" thread. I have not seen any excitement or very much said about P3dv6. I remember the many, many threads about V5 when it came out, but I see very little enthusiasm or discussion about V6 this many weeks after release. As I said in earlier threads, I DID purchase V6 the very first day it came out but was disappointed enough to put it in a folder on my X drive (pretty much storage) for a time when I feel I can gradually add all the necessary elements and addons I have in V5. I am enthusiastically happy with V5.4 and I fly it every day loving everything I have bought to make it the sim that it is. The EA is beautiful with AS and ASCA, and the cloud realism is amazing. Hopefully, V6 will have evolved to the point that it is radically different from V5 in a very positive way. I was truly expecting a very significant improvement with a totally new version of P3d (Unreal engine or the like). I believe that Lockheed Martin should have held off until they were able to give us a comparable engine to compete with MSFS in its visual rendering. This, of course, is my personal opinion and if you are happy with V6, I am happy for you.

It was never LM's intent to compete with MSFS and probably never will be. The billion dollar company has other more profitable revenue streams. :>)
August 27, 20232 yr I have no intention of uninstalling V5 as that’s where all my expensive study level aircraft are and it’s still my go to sim. To me version six looks so good in default it is good to have a platform to play with that doesn’t need to be loaded down with addons and can start in a minute. Even the autogen buildings look better. I flew my A2A C182 from KGSP over the mountains to KAVL and the scenery was very realistic as this is an area I’m quite familiar with. Even the Asheville default airport looked good with the closed runway due to construction. Turbulence over the mountains was as it should be and aircraft handling seems improved. Long way from a replacement for V5 because of addon compatibility but a promising platform to have on the side for my “lite” simming. I’m quite impressed now. If not for developer abandonment I could see it taking off. I refer mainly to the study level aircraft developers. Vic green

EA is a product from a different company, so LM can’t control it enough to keep P3D moving where they need it. they’ve stated definitively the the ESP platform will be around quite awhile due to their Mil/Com business, regardless of what happens with the next gen sim they’re also building

August 27, 20232 yr I've been a long time user of P3D, up to v5.4. Then switched to MSFS. With the release of v6, I thought to give it another try. But, once you get used to the MSFS graphics, P3D just looks so .... I don't know ... outdated ? With the PMDG 737 and the A320 Fenix I have the 'study level' airplanes I want. And for GA there is the fantastic A2A Comanche pa24 So, for me, P3D has been fun for many years, but that ends now. If I moved to P3D I would lose all of my military AI traffic, a good portion of my airline traffic (I use FSPXAI models), and a lot of my GA traffic. Plus, I don't like the fact that AI has to be installed automatically in MSFS. I like installing my AI manually.

The best AI traffic ever.
August 27, 20232 yr I installed p3Dv6 and Active Sky for P3Dv6. And I installed the Fokker F27 (old school turbo prop) from JF. Works fine. For ORBX I wait until they provide v6 installers. I hope they start soon with it. My first impression is that the weather depiction in v5.4 is better dan in v6. Agree that the EA and volumetric clouds have improved in v6, but the weather depiction in v6 is not in accordance with reality is my conclusion. Not as good as in 5.4. I tried several times at my home airport EHAM. The metar tells me the sky is broken (7/8 cloud coverage), but in v6 a large part of the sky colors blue (looks more like fair weather). That's so with vol. clouds on and also with legacy clouds (ASCA). I hope this will be fixed coming weeks or months. AS is in early access and is prone to errors. On the other hand I am very enthousiastic about the update intervals P3D is getting; already 3 patches. I suppose the fourth will not be far away. In the base v6 is a good platform imho but it needs attention from LM, AS and the other developers.
