Potential improvements for sky colors

Always better to put the default files in before updating. Just like a BIOS update, set defaults first so you can rule out even the slimmest of possible issues with an update.

What do you mean with "put default files in"? We just need to remove the 3 Drunq files.

Edit: Unless you edited the exe with HxD instead of using the Drunq files.

I searched for Biology's values and also MortThe2nd values in the exe and didn't find them, so it looks like they came up with their own values.

Yep appears so, comparison shots on the official forum and it's clear they're not the same. Might be a good reason to keep using this threads method even after SU14 release, which I was hoping to avoid really.

Yes, there could still be a place for this mod, as it could be used to set our own personal preferences.
The problem is, finding the new coefficients in the exe file, as we don't know exactly what numbers they are using.
It may be possible by tracing a code sequence from an older exe file just before the coefficient's.

Keeping the mod will be no trouble for me if we can get it to work.  It is just three files, and easy to add / remove, and use in the sim with the new toggle system.
It might be a good idea to wait for the new beta to stabilise for a few week or two before anyone attempts anything.
I would expect a hotfix in the next few days due to the settings issue.

I believe there is no need to use this mod anymore. As confirmed by Biology on discord, Asobo has done more than just adjusting the ozone coefficients. Because this arpc mod had little to no affect on day time sky colours. Now with the update, you get improved day time sky colours and the overall lighting looks more natural (no more greenish hue).

As mentioned in the patch notes "Used more realistic mapping of wave lengths onto RBG values for the ozone layer scattering and the sun color, resulting in more realistic colors of the sky and the lighting in the world."

So it's not just the sky colours but lighting has been improved as well.

One more thing I should mention and it has also been confirmed by other beta users on official forums, the changes to sky colour and lighting is much more noticeable in HDR. Granted you have a full 1000nits HDR display. I don't know what they did, but the game looks marginally better in HDR than how it looked in the past. And all these subtle changes to lighting and atmosphere pop more.

I hope @Biologycan go into details here.

Ok thanks @Baber20 for that, I'd rather use the default of course so will await the general release of SU14 👍

Thanks for the update, can you please point to the discord message link where Biology confirmed this? Would like to know the extent of this SU14 improvement, including improvements to scattering (if any), etc.

Sorry for the late response, but indeed I'm pretty happy with the changes.

Without seeing the new coefficients it's hard to comment but it appears that they chose something in between the old default values and what ARPC outputs for the ozone absorption coefficients. If I had to guess why, I'd say it's likely because the sunsets / sunrises look too green when using the ARPC coefficients as is without the required changes to the multiple scattering, so they likely had to make a compromise between the accuracy of the coefficients and the greenness of the sunsets / sunrises.

Another unexpected but welcome change is the day sky colors. While ozone absorption coefficients affect day sky colors, the effect is minimal, so it seems like they also changed the rayleigh scattering coefficients based on ARPC and not just the ozone absorption coefficients, making the day sky colors have a deeper blue hue with less green, a change that I really appreciate.

I would have been even happier if they tried to tweak the multiple scattering so that they could use the ozone absorption coefficients from ARPC as is, but they never said they would do that so I'm not disappointed as I had no expectations in that regard to begin with.
