Do You Use HDR?

What's everyone thoughts on HDR? I have an SAMSUNG 32" Odyssey Neo G7 4K UHD 165Hz 1ms G-Sync 1000R Curved Gaming Monitor, Quantum HDR2000 and I was wondering if HDR really works with MSFS as I have mixed results. Thanks!

I have it on.  But personally I haven't noticed a big difference at all between HDR on/off.

5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW  and 2  22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU,  360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

HDR causes way too many weird issues on my system and with my particular monitor to enjoy it, so I keep it off. They keep releasing updated firmware for my monitor that’s slowly improving the situation though, so maybe someday I’ll be able to enjoy HDR.

HDR is great in MSFS - more brightness = more realism. I have an HDR600 monitor and without HDR on MSFS looks dull, just as XP12 does.

I noticed in a screenshot someone took of FlyTampa Boston KBOS, the Hyatt Hotel had vibrant looking lights at night.

I tried to replicate this on my screen and could not...

I guess that's because I don't have an HDR monitor?

HDR really improves the brightness of sunlight and colours. It does overbloom things at certain angles.

Overall HDR is better for me in MSFS.

My issues with HDR are when NOT in MSFS, things like chrome windows occasionally are washed out and hard to read, no matter what win10 HDR settings I use.

I had the same trouble until I calibrated the HDR with this free tool:

I have it on but alot depends on your screen.  Samsung seem ok.

I saw a video somewhere that showed msfs is targeting unattainable nit levels for the sun of like 10,000 nits.  I have a 4k hdr setup but it's not certified to a nit level and i think it's closer to 300 pathetic nits.  as a result HDR always seems off even though the dynamic range is better and color saturation is nicer.  I compromised and used nvidia filters to get some of that pop back while leaving HDR off.

I use HDR on a 32 inch curved gigabyte monitor, though the screen is made by Samsung.  I find HDR brighter and more vibrant but the sky is a bit too bright and the ground a little dark for me.  I turn off bloom in msfs as with HDR I find I don't need it.

The main drawback for me is that screenshots look awful.

I always turn on HDR when I play Cyberpunk. Night City looks amazing in HDR.

I've never used HDR in MSFS. I think it's because I'm a bit afraid of burn in. In cruise there's long periods of time when there's a static image on display.

Thinking about it, Cyberpunk has HUD elements that are always in the same position and I've played that for hundreds of hours with no sign of burn in so maybe I will try it out in MSFS.

HDR looks simply outstanding on a Dell monitor that is capable of its display. One downside is that there are a lot of buttons to press, both real and virtual, in order to get it properly activated. If you follow all the steps correctly (monitor HDR enabled, Windows 11 HDR on and calibrated, MSFS HDR enabled) the image comes alive. I think it's more of an improvement vs SDR than is 4K vs HD, but everyone's mileage is sure to vary on that.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Since using GFE Detail Filter I've turned HDR off it's not as good and not as controllable for me in MSFS.
