Blacksquare TBM 850 gets my vote

Featured Replies

I'll definitely be getting the SWS PC12 at launch. I know there won't be any failures at first but the system depth should still be there. The sounds from the preview videos were probably the best turboprop sounds I've ever heard in a sim. I was pretty tempted by both the TBM and the M500, but I like a larger aircraft and the PC12 will fit that criteria quite nicely.

Love the tbm 850. But the prop sounds are horrible. Beta on the ground too quiet and the overly loud, almost external sound of the prop in flight needs significant improvement.

I also really like the Black Square TBM850, and BS seems willing to continue to make improvements in the plane. Seems I read somewhere (but don't recall where) that they will be coming out with improved sounds, and they have also said they will be fixing the autopilot bugs. I prefer to support developers that are willing to continue to improve their product.

Not sure how you feel about "added effects" but FS Realistic just released v2.2 with better reverse thrust/beta effects.

I haven't tried the TBM with it yet but I do like the added effect it has on the Carenado PC-12's reverse/beta characteristics.

So this helps for now until the devs improve the TBMs beta.

I have FSRealistic so I'll check out the update when I get home. Thanks for the pointer

The TBM is my favourite bird in the hangar at present.  That panel takes my breath away every time I load it.  I find the sounds to be fantastic.  But I've never been in the real aircraft so don't know if they're inaccurate in some areas.  Switch and button, etc ambient sounds are wonderful.   It's also an extremely easy aircraft on the old FPS too, which is nice.

Interesting thread. I'm looking to pick up a deep GA aircraft. Was trying to decide between TBM850, Comanche 250 and FSR m500. This thread has me leaning towards the TBM850 now.

If you can only buy one of those the A2A Comanche is the one in a league of its own.

Just as an FYI, the TBM 850 is probably my only add-on I must trim accurately on takeoff and final to have a great landing.  By trim, I mean the rudder.  Usually I can adjust things okay with the rudder pedals, but this plane pulls a lot more than any other prop I have.  For takeoff in mild winds I set the rudder to the mid-way point between takeoff and center.  Stronger winds set it at takeoff.  For landing you have to keep that ball centered with the rudder trim and kinda get a feel that it's not wanting to drift/pull left.  It's a fast plane and will fly nice and high as well.  Keep that cabin pressurization set appropriately too, as it will give you issues if you climb too fast or descend fast as well.  Even with the rate set to 12 or 1 o'clock.  It's a very nice plane and I'm looking forward to the next update.  You just have to tinker more with the controls and trim, unlike other Black Square add-ons.

The Comanche is also a high quality plane.  The sounds are extremely immersive/loud, the hand-flying characteristics, the enhanced tablet features/aircraft customization, and walk-around are all part of a GA experience.  Yes, it is a rather slow airplane and it's not meant to be flown very high, but it has a fairly high degree of challenges that make it a special add-on.  You will have to hand-fly your approaches and landings, regardless of visibility, but that is essentially a limitation of the rudimentary autopilot.  You have to give yourself time and space to wash off airspeed or you won't be able to deploy landing gear or flaps.  Landing is tricky in the sense that, like a real plane, it will bounce if you come in too hot.  It's a very fun airplane, but a lot like the real thing.  Not a strong crosswind/harsh weather flier, so don't expect it to be.

Both the TBM 850 and Comanche force you to be on top of things, and both are vastly different in terms of speed, altitude, and overall flying experience.  I don't own the M500, so I can't comment.

The Comanche and the TBM are very different planes so it may also come down to the kind of mission you like to fly. But both are best in their class at the moment.

The most in depth is kinda a tossup between the M500 and Comanche.  Even though the TBM is slightly less in depth (default sounds and not as accurate engine simulation) I prefer the TBM.  It's a lot faster, has more analog gauges, and is less automated.

The 850 is a great product and I've really enjoyed flying it so far. One thing this thread overlooks is that we've had what I would consider "the best" turboprop in the sim for quite a while now: the Black Square Analog King Air. Along with the PMS50 GTN750 (and plug-in for that aircraft), I haven't seen anything that outshines it. Has to be said though that the 850 flight model is really something special.

I couldn't agree more. I have been almost exclusively flying the Blacksquare Kingair for months now and I'm still loving it. Add in the FTsim sound pack and it's a total winner for me. The only thing I can see that might steer me away from it is the upcoming SWS PC12.

And I would add, the cockpit just feels right..  A delight to sit in, and operate.  🙂

I think this is quite true, and sometimes what is missed when thinking about an add on aircraft. The TBM looks, sounds, and feels just right; it is immersive. I also like the M500, but the cockpit, while perhaps authentic to the real thing, just looks like a Star Trek ship -- the textures are so clean, it is almost an all-white interior, which in real life would be muddied up pretty quick, and wall-to-wall glass instruments -- sometimes I lose my enthusiasm to fly and go back to the TMB.
