New AutoFPS 0.4.2 Test Version 12Mar240940Z available here. No more new features are planned for 0.4.2, so if no major issues are identified with the latest changes, this will be close to the final release version. Thanks again to all the testers for feedback.

Changes are:

  • Changed target FPS tracking for all modes to be have much smaller TLOD changes the closer you are to your target FPS for a more consistent FPS experience.
  • Removed ability for the app to continually adjust TLOD on the ground in any mode as it causes either ground texture corruption issues in DX12 and ground texture flashing issues in DX11 and DX12.
  • Extended TLOD Min extra, which seems to be working very well in non-expert mode, to work in expert settings as an option. Click the + checkbox next to TLOD Min to activate it.
  • Fixed auto target FPS re-calibration upon arrival at new airport endless loop issue with FPS mode on the ground.
  • Added re-calibration of auto target FPS when graphics mode changes.
  • Fixed Cloud Recovery TLOD setting being changed incorrectly with an otherwise valid TLOD Min or TLOD Max change with cloud recovery + enabled.
  • Changed FPS Tolerance label to be FPS Sensitivity as that is what this setting more accurately does with the revised target FPS tracking in this test version.
  • Added FG active/inactive to log file in extra logging mode if applicable.

With the greatest respect, I think calling this useful *utility* a "hack" is doing everyone (especially the author) a huge dis-service (!). If this is a hack, then 99.9% of all the addons that add functionality of any kind to MSFS are also "hacks". There are many *payware* addons that use Simconnect ot Coatl (or similar methods) - are they all "hacks" too?

As to too many releases ... it's been a creative and highly productive (IMHO) interchange between author and users. If you don't like all the *test* releases, then no-one's forcing you to download them - just wait until you think a "final" version comes along.

What's more - it's all been good natured throughout - I've enjoyed all 46 pages so far 😉

Despite a multitude of test releases, each with comprehensive release notes and instructions for testers, AutoFPS 0.4.2 is shaping up to offer this in summary:

  • Auto target FPS option, so you don't have to configure a single setting if you don't want to, putting full auto into AutoFPS!
  • Improved target FPS tracking for all modes by having much smaller TLOD changes the closer you are to your target FPS for a more consistent FPS experience.
  • Auto raising and lowering of the minimum TLOD, depending on low altitude performance being either very favourable or poor respectively. Enabled by default and optional (+) in expert mode.
  • Improved non-expert mode with the enabling of auto OLOD by default, a greater TLOD range for automation to work within and being optimised with auto target FPS to give the best hands-off user experience.
  • New relative (+) cloud recovery TLOD setting in all modes.
  • Removed the ability for the app to continually adjust TLOD on the ground in any mode as it exacerbates ground texture corruption issues in DX12 and causes ground texture flashing issues in both DX11 and DX12.
  • Enhanced saving and restoration of MSFS settings by the app, to better withstand MSFS CTDs.
  • More concise app status messages.
  • More concise log file entries.
  • Bonus GPU load display if the optional GPU-Z companion app is detected running.
  • A more polished UI, including new app icon, minimise button, background colour and tooltips.
  • Detection of new Smoothflight app if already running, to avoid conflicting MSFS settings control.

Yes seriously 45 pages!!!

Thankfully 1 person has taken on something that is game changing in his own time, for free for the benefit of the community. This thread is very active because many of us are working with the developer to make this app even better.

No one is asking you to read through 45 pages or download the app. Have fun with MSFS 2024 !

Reset_XPDR wouldn't have created a meaningful app if at least one person didn't show up to naysay it! Welcome to Avsim.

This app has been a meaningful and dramatic step up in the experience many of us are having. The continual tweaking/feature additions/improved robustness of the app make it something that is getting better with every iteration.

Use or don't use, but the amount of input in this thread is a testament to the developer's commitment to the users' experience.

AutoFPS 0.4.2 is shaping up to offer this in summary:

I'm a real fan of your programs. They've really come a long way!

I know I'm late to the program request, but one thing I have been thinking about as I use your programs...would it be possible to add an option to display the TLOD and OLOD in red, upper left hand corner, in a similar method to the ambiiouspilots-shiftzstats program?

That way, I don't have the complete dialog box taking up space either in my main screen or second screen. This would be much easier and to glance at...

Not sure if I am missing something here,

I tried this and my TLOD was 400 sitting at the gate of IniBuilds EGNM in the Fenix causing stutters. Is this correct? Why would you need such a high TLOD sitting at the ground

Quick question: How can I get TLOD min 100?

BFpLgKC.jpeg

AutoFPS software has been upgraded and kept up to date. I use RTSS to lock the FPS at 80, which allows me to fly with almost no stuttering and keep the picture smooth even when looking at different directions. I also flew with the same AutoFPS parameters (Use Expert Options On ,Start flight at 1500ft)at low altitude in New York, and the overall behaviour was stable, although it varied from update to update. The last update showed a strange behaviour, it was easy to go above LOD300 at low altitude, which led to severe stuttering, sometimes going up to LOD400 at low altitude, which is the highest LOD I have set.

Update: Adjusted FPS Sensitivity from 5 to 2, didn't select any plus sign or cloud LOD, flew 1480ft circles over Manhattan. LOD seems to be stable around 220, I need to test it more.

You don't.

See my above post. In that case TLOD 200 wouldn't be necessary (Fenix gate LFPO).

Off topic: By the way I departed from (Orbx's) EGNM 1.5 hrs ago. Terrible weather! Heads-up: Do not try a touch n' go into Rwy 32 with a fully loaded aircraft!

Perhaps expert mode is necessary to get reasonable TLOD Min below AGL 1000ft, I'm not sure. I did have great success with non-expert non-auto-target-fps last night. And I'm still on the same build.

(Honestly I'm getting a bit confused (not the first time!), possibly because I spent 3 hours today trying to figure out why I couldn't get the Fenix FMA to properly indicate CATII... luckily I was able to resolve this due to some brilliant advice from fellow forum members. Sometime, quite often in fact, Avsim is just awesome!)
