Ini Is Dropping The a300-600R Today (Update)

Aircraft shot through, not just the constraint altitude, but the FCU altitude.  The FCU was set to 4000 as per the SID assigned by SayIntentions, took off and it shot straight through this.  I'd always say user error is possible but I am not sure how the user can get it wrong, in terms of setting an altitude in the FCU.  This was from Tehran airport (elevation 1007' MSL).

I departed not long ago from LEBL via the OLOX2F departure, which requires some sharp turns not long after take-off. It also has some speed restrictions, 210 then 225kt. The first one was below the aircraft's green dot speed (which it held until going past the restriction - then it accelerated to 250 below 10,000ft). The SID didn't have any below altitude constraints.

I guess it's possible this could be navdata related but I left Tehran on the EGVE3G sid, which has a straight ahead (runway heading) initial leg.  After take off the NAV mode commanded an immediate hard left turn and started going back on itself.

The aircraft has so far followed the SID and the flight plan without any oddities.

Reached cruise:-

  • Despite the A/T still appearing to be engaged, (and M0.77 being shown in the CLB perf page) the shiny new P&W engines were 'jammed' at 96% N1 (sorry don't do EPR numbers!), resulting in an overspeed up to M0.86 and the alarms going off.  This was not controller-related as the throttles do not move when you move your throttle axes. It was just 'stuck' until I disconnected the A/T and pulled the power back.

Currently at cruise FL320, managed speed M0.794 at N1 82%, EPR 1.45 (in a DHL with P&W).

I'm someone who was lucky enough to never have any issues with the A300 until this point.

Same, never had any issues. Luckily that includes my current 1st flight post-update.

...and the interior sounds are aroud 90% quiter than any other aircraft!

I find it difficult to comment on sounds as I've got no idea how the flight deck sounds are in the real thing. The flight deck is certainly not quiet though, but I don't think I can hear neither engine nor environmental sounds. Instead it's like a fan / air condition sound. I sound like a complete noob saying this...

I've deleted it will fly other aircraft for a month or so.  My free, relaxation time is too rare and valuable to me to spend it in the misery of problems like this.   I still look forward to hearing from others, but for me, this update killed a fantastic aircraft version and replaced it with the biggest mess of an update I've ever seen.   In 20 years of flight sim, I don't think I've ever seen an airliner bust through it's FCU altitude.  Now the pink textures.   INI are just word not allowed.  (I actually typed 'word not allowed' there 😄).  Their ambition seems to far surpass their competence and ability.   Harsh, but for me, it's true.

I'm very sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. And like I've mentioned before, I still find it baffling that some people have no issues at all - and other people, like yourself, are tormented by inexplicable bugs.

If you look at my signature, it mentions the A300 as one of my favourite airliners.

It's certainly one of my favourite airliners too. After I got the 146 yesterday, I'll be changing between that one, this one - and of course the Fenix.

I very frequently do the same! Saves me from coming up with some creative word not allowed words!

(while writing this post I've frequently alt-tabbed back to MSFS with the fear of seeing the aircraft in a catastrophic nose-dive... luckily that has not happened yet...)

Thank you for your detailed reply, Captain @Cpt_Piett, and I'm glad you like my new cockpit interior decor! 😄

So.....

It seems INI Manager had manged to right royally mess up my update.   Much of this was to do with how it handles liveries and the fact that the naming convention is not consistent.   (Most varients have 'GE' or 'PW' but not the GE Pax version!).

Once realizing this, I deleted everything concerning the A300 and the many liveries I'd downloaded from INI Manager (second uninstall/reinstall!).  I reinstalled (for the 2nd time!) the plane and all liveries, afresh.

I'm in cruise now from Tehran to Ahwaz in the GE Pax version (I'm too scarred and scared to fly the PW version again, plus the sound mixing is much better in the GE) and all is well.   The busting FCU altitude did not occur on this second reinstall and neither did the 'jammed' autothrottle.

I'm going to say that - other than my peeves with the PW's sound mixing, all is well!

INI aren't completely off the hook though as their clunky, unreliable INI Manager app was the cause of all this!  The pink textures..... no idea. On the 2nd reinstall (this time including a reinstall of all liveries, after the PW update) that issue too has resolved itself.

Good to be back in one of my favourite birds.  👍

Excellent!

I'm currently 50nm south of EBBR en route to Oslo to deliver (let me check) 40 tonnes of mail. Still no quirks, she behaves well. Again, this is the P&W freighter version (they didn't have many PAX liveries - and I really like the DHL livery).

I just have to avoid switching to external view as the engine sounds are deafening!

Oh, and the ENGM METAR is... interesting:

Wind 030° 5kt. Visibility 5000m, 2000m at south-east. mist. Clouds overcast 200ft. Temperature 3°C, dew point 2°C. QNH 1003hPa.

I think I'll take the CATII ILS. Would be fun to try an autoland, but alas I've completely forgotten how to do that in this aircraft!

Btw - this is a category D aircraft, yes? No?

That sounds realistic to me. Above a certain speed you only hear wind noise in the flightdeck and the avionic fans.

Do you people remember how everyone was up and arms when the Level D 767 came out and this was exactly what was heard in the cockpit? It was simply realistic.

People complaining about not hearing the engines in the flightdeck, usually seem to base their experience on sitting in the cabin instead of sitting in front.

I'm not interested in a sound mix that sounds plausible for the ears of someone who only flies aircraft as passenger. I want a sound mix that sounds like sitting in the flight deck of the real thing.

Very similar to what I've just had, landing in Ahwaz in southern Iran!   I did perform the autoland and I'm glad I was set up for it as I still had no contact at 200'.

Earlier on in the flight. The weather was stunning on this flight.  And perhaps surprisingly, the photo scenery over Iran is really stunning for the most part.  I chose Iran Air for this one as I've previously only ever flown the cargo version of the plane.   And with Iran Air still operating the A300-600R, I fancied taking some self-loading cargo down to the south 😎  :-

Well, just finished a couple of flights, appart from the volume of the engine on the external view which is bad, here is what I experienced

- After 2 hours on a 3 hours flight, the plane suddenly dropped 2000ft and 60kt, before getting "back" with an extra 1000ft and overspeeding by 40kt.

- During descent and approach, I need to use the speedbrake at a very high frequency, VNAV is all over the place.

- On the last flight on the ground EXT PWR is AVAIL, but impossible to connect it.

- No GSX integration.

Maybe I am spoiled by Fenix, but the A300 from Ini, feels a lot like a "CRJ experience" with some lipstick to me. To the hangar and I will lower my expectations for the future A350.

Sounds exactly like the classic MSFS weather switch when it decides to switch wind speeds by 100 knots instantaneously and the pressure changes as well, messing with your altitude. Really doubt this was the plane's fault.

Finished the first v1.1.0 flight LEBL to ENGM (about 3hrs). VNAV descent seemed a bit finicky. The aircraft correctly slowed down to meet speed restrictions, which meant that I was constantly above the descent profile after that. I.e. I needed to use the speed brakes extensively.

Other than that, the flight went well. GSX worked at both airports. Short video of the ILS approach into ENGM (I’m a bit rusty on the aircraft so don’t judge me too harshly): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTNe4qymf_s

Nice Video

I think they have ironed out a bunch of kinks with this bird and i'm thoroughly enjoying flying her now. I also don't really have an issue with the VNAV. Its an older bird with less accurate equipment so i don't think this is one of those aircraft that is going to strictly adhere to profile like the 737/A320 modern aircraft  that we are used to now. There will be some babying involved and vigilance to make sure the energy is managed. I learned that on the first flight coming in way too fast at KSFO this afternoon. But i just did CYYZ-KBWI moments ago and it was sublime with a smooth touchdown. I have no complaints .. The only thing i am hoping for is that they have finally fixed that falling out the sky issue on longer flights.

I think that’s true, and something that was discussed in the other A300 thread. Speed management is crucial and it’s so easy to “fall behind” the aircraft. Too high and fast before capturing the glide slope basically means a missed approach. That’s what makes it so much fun. It’s a fun challenge with all the quirks of a vintage aircraft.

@Cpt_Piett Are you in the SU15 beta?

I admit I'm not type rated in the A300.  But I think a lot of people fly it and expect it to behave like the Fenix and have a modern autopilot.  There are many threads here and other places where real world ex A300 pilots have said VNAV was used less and much differently than the modern pilots.  I guess I have a different view.  I think having to use a little speed brake and ensure my speeds/alt is on track is part of the fun.

You right, but reading this A300 topics make me feel a type raped pilot. It's remember me my sad 😭 experience with the DC6 PMDG.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

I was, but a few days ago the sim threw a tantrum (vicious cycle of "missing packages") that required me to do a full re-install. Since then, I haven't been brave enough to re-enter the beta...

EDIT: I couldn't resist it, so I'm back in the beta Currently at cruise FL330 en route to EGLL. All well at the flight deck 😎

What do you think of the improved ground handling on the A300? It is available if you're in the beta
