Prepar3d v5.4 Aircraft Recommendations

Featured Replies

Hey everyone.  Have been flying with Prepar3d v5 for nearly 8 months now and recently took the plunge and got the PMDG 737 and freighter addon.  I am LOVING IT!  Having flown it during livestreams quite frequently on my YT channel, I am amazed at the ease of flying it once you learn all the systems, etc. and even made my own custom checklist for the plane.

Now I want to expand my aircraft out beyond the aircraft I ported over, IE: POSKY, etc...

I fly mainly Delta aircraft but have expanded my flights to some FedEx, AA and UAL planes. So based on that, what are your recommendations for payware aircraft for P3d v5.4?  I also have the QW 757 as well and am learning that plane.

Mainly interested in the A320, A321 (CEO/NEO), B717, B767 and the A330.  Planning on getting the PMDG 777 soon so I don't need a recommend there.  Thanks all!

Hi , well since you do love 5.4 you might want to look into MaddogX and FSLabs Airbus series. That will keep you busy for a year at least.

If you love the 737, why not try the Max?

Highly highly recommend the FSLabs A320. Since I started simming in 2007 I was one of those not Boeing I ant going dudes. I cut my teeth on the default 737NG in FSX while waiting on the NGX. Since from FSX to P3DV5 I purchased about six NGs between PMDG and IFliy including the MAX. I was a bit intimidated by the difference in the Airbus philosophy until last year I decided to go for it and went about to learn the Airbus. I'm no pilot but the FSlabs seem to feel more like a real aircraft than any other sim bird and I have them all.  Very steep learning curve but very satisfying and is a very widely used aircraft all over the world. LOL personally I can't see why any real-world airline pilot with the seniority and company option would prefer a 737 over an A320. The cockpit appears much more comfortable without the pole coming up between your feet with a yoke Infront of your chest, especially with so little hand flying on a modern jet.

A lot of automation but by no means set and forget. You have to Baby sit the automation or you will find yourself fighting it. So there's my recomendation for today🙂

I chose PMDG‘s 747-400 and 747-8 over their 777. The jumbo is iconic and a pleasure to fly! I had iFly‘s 747-400 in P3DV4, but didn‘t get it work in V5. Switching to the PMDG 747 was a significant and worthy upgrade!

PMDG doesn't have one yet for P3d, iFly does, correct?

Some "other" recommendations (to spice things up) : Majestic Dash 8 Q400, Just Flight Bae 146, Coolsky DC-9, PMDG DC-6  and the Aerosoft DC-8. All of these planes work well in P3Dv5 and provide a lets say different experience than the usual Boeing and/or Airbus experience 🙂

Correct.  And I think the ifly max is a really good plane.

For B717, TFDi 717 is nice, not study level but the system is good enough for most normal flight, and fun to fly with. I'd say one step higher than Aerosoft Buses and QW 787/757.

Although CS767/757 is at same level to TFDi717 as a product, I really can't recommend that due to the CS team behind it is now basically scammer.

Also keep in mind most airplane in P3D will be "as it is", as no further update down the pipeline expected, maybe except iFly MAX and FSL320/Concorde, even then that would be slow as they are focusing on other sim.

I'll definitely add the TDFi 717 to the list of future buys.  Heard about the CS767 issues and am really disappointed with them as a whole.  I really love flying the 763 on domestic runs in and out of ATL like ATL-SLC or ATL-MCO.  Are there no decent 767's out there beyond the generic POSKY version I have or the CS version?

No good 767.  The captain sim isn’t bad, but only if it’s on sale.

agree on the 717.  Great plane but heavy on vram, so make sure you have a strong gpu.

I highly recommend the PMDG 737 NGXu and the FS2Crew addon for P3D v5.4. Definitely a pleasure to fly

There's nothing like FSLabs in P3D, IMO, so, as many have suggested - go FSLabs !  It's a bit expensive but worth every dime...
