This SU 15 it started out well but it ended badly for me!

A really good practice, I find, is to reboot your PC after any major update - whether it's Windows, Graphics Drivers, or in this case MSFS.  Just makes sure that all processes are starting afresh clean, and isn't doing anything unusual to your system.

I'll be honest, I have not had a CTD is MSFS 2020 in over a year regardless of Beta or release version.

Those users that do have them I will almost bet that there is a configuration issue with the machine, CPU overclock is unstable, XMP is unstable or GPU overclock is Unstable.

I'm not trying to capture this thread and turn in into a sfc /scannow thread. It's just an option for people to try out, take it or leave it.

Its right up there with reinstall windows from scratch.....  to fix a few stutters....

Not entirely true.

Open a command prompt with admin rights…

Go through each of the following steps one at a time. Copy each line, one at a time , paste it into the Dos window (crtl + V) and press return

and it will then run. Wait until each runs and finishes before you move on to the next one.

When you are completely finished, Restart your computer and then try to see in MS2020 will start and run properly

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /checkhealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

sfc /scannow

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

RESTART your computer as the last step. Then go for a test flight.

It checks and if necessary repairs Windows system files. These can, if corrupted, lead to CTDs, especially the "random" 0x0000005 ones.

I know what it does, I am wondering why anyone would recommend it 2x a week but then I read you have a placebo effect where you don't have a CTD so you assume it is SFC/Scannow.

I've never had a CTD, have no Windows issues in my event viewer and never used it on my drives so I guess by the reverse logic not running it never caused a CTD...

You never had a CTD in MSFS 2020? In 4 years? Not in the menu, while loading a flight, mid-flight, at the end of the flight? No offense but I kind of doubt that.

Why would you doubt it?   There are lots of people not running sfc /scannow and not having CTD's.  No offense taken that you are essentially calling me a liar because I don't use your advice and my sim is stable but all good.  This whole thread is about someone having their first CTD...

In flight everything was OK but, it had never happened to me in any other flight before this SU 15, when I was descending about 40 miles from KLAX, I had a CTD

As for me, I've only been using MSFS seriously since PMDG was released, the only error I have seen repeatedly is the done.io error. Otherwise I have had the display freeze 2-3 times in the PMDG which was apparently related to RA/TA specifically in a few hundred hours of flights.  None of those were a CTD. Never had a CTD in the menu, loading a flight, mid-flight or at the end of a flight.  Sorry to disappoint you that despite not running sfc/scannow my system and sim are pretty darn stable.

My biggest issue has probably been with peripherals disconnecting but again, unlike prior sims MSFS is "very" accommodating in terms of controllers being added/removed mid flight and the issue is usually solved by unplugging a USB port and plugging the device back in at which point MSFS pauses to let me know it detected the device and my flight continues.  So even device disconnects haven't resulted in a CTD...  I will add I have 2 hubs with Overhead, MCP, Dual EFIS, dual NAV, Comms, transponder, FFB yoke, rudder pedals, throttle quadrant, steering tiller, Razer peripherals, Logitech G13 so I have ~ 15 peripheral devices LOL...

I haver had 1 CTD in almost 2 years. That is flying about 15 flights per week.

As I said no offense, just very suprised. I thought it was granted anyone would suffer from CTDs sooner or later, and be it only because of an addon being incompatible after a SU or whatever.

Adding no offense to an offensive statement doesn't magically make it non offensive LOL.

After numerous other CTDs that also occurred during the loading of the initial scenario, something that had never happened before, finally in the W11 event viewer, it was reported to me that the CTD was due to the d3d11.dll module.

This error refers to the Nvidia driver and that for me was 555.85.

I installed the 555.12 and have so far made about ten flights without encountering any problems.
