I'm done with Aeroplane Heaven

Featured Replies

From the wonky Spitfire Mk1A to the new P-47D this developer can make a somewhat decent visual model but consistently falls off the cliff with flight dynamics and sounds.  Their updates are actually to be avoided as they do more harm than good.  Case in point AH just broke the P-51 to where it's unflyable.  Can't take off with the thing anymore. Luckily enough I had my old installers (which Simmarket and others are going away from) or this add-on would have been toast for me (still looking for an improved soundset for this). I would never purchase from this developer again.  The P-47D was so close but watching the reviews of the sound set and knowing AH will not improve their effort based on customer feedback, buyer beware is all I can say.😑

I know exactly what you mean. In FSX/P3D I was ever optimistic about Aeroplane Heaven, but after frustration with the Chipmunk and SB2C, the C-46 Commando was the last straw. Haven't touched them since, at least not in payware terms. That said, the free DC-3 wasn't bad, and has been polished up very nicely with the Duckworks mod. I also grabbed their Ford Trimotor while it was free in the Marketplace, and with one or two little gripes, that has been a pleasant surprise. I admit I'm tempted by their new Hawker Hurricane, but there are some issues with external textures, so I'll wait. As for their forthcoming Lancaster bomber, the reviews will have to be absolutely stellar - and I'm not very hopeful.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

P51 works fine - make sure you don't have the old JayDee mod installed, that breaks it with SU15 and is no longer required.

Also the Hurricane is pretty good, though not perfect and some of the included liveries ARE broken.

I am done with AH for years.

Their planes were always somehow 'half baked'

I always thought the "H" in "AH" stands for herpes or hell... but half-baked does fit also 😄

I bought the Hurricane 2 weeks ago - and enjoyed it so much - I then bought the P51

In the 19 attempts since  I haven't got it of the ground - at max revs - max power - all I get is 80 knots

hear hear...

Your acount rings me a bell; a senior member whom I knew since FS9 (of course I was not using this new account).

100%. I start to think that many devs in FSX were arguably far more able (of course there are always exceptions), but IMO it is safe to say some new developers seem to be in hurry in making profit while neglecting many important aspects

This is what I described above.  Luckily, I had an installer for the previous version.

It's honestly a little gutting, cus I actually love (IRL) most of the planes they release. I have a thing for classics. But AH charge top tier prices for half baked products. When you're competing in price with people like Flying Iron you have to do better. The other downside is it makes the aircraft they release less likely to be developed by someone else. I would love an A2A or Flying Iron P51D.

Flyingiron are the star in this category of warbirds.

Since following these instructions (by the FM author, copied from the SOH forum) every P51 take-off has been successful

If you follow real world procedures, it takes off easy. That is, do NOT lift the tail early. There is ~5500 lbs-ft of prop torque trying to roll the airplane to the left ( which is completely absent in IL-2 btw ), so you must hold about 40% right aileron during the takeoff. Likewise, about 15-20% back stick to keep the tail from lifting too soon. Keep straight with rudder. It will takeoff when it is ready.

ah-p-51d-updated.144655 40% aileron is the most important (plus or minus any cross-wind correction)

Also the Hurricane textures are being improved.

my problems are with both the Hurricane & the P-47 - go for a flight from the runway - sim goes to the airplane on the runway & the prop spins down & the engine stops - goes for both of them - when I try to start either of them the primer doesn't work - unlocks OK but won't pump - such a shame - when I start a flight with them from in the air both work fine - but the funny thing with the Hurricane are that both mags are in the off position & it still flys on - any idea as to why the engine quits when you enter a flight from the runway(BTW I just wanna fly the things not do all the afficianado type stuff - I flew airplanes & heicopters for 50 years - now all I wanna do is have fun(like Cyndi Lauper says))

I'm exactly the same, apart from the flying airplanes and helicopters for 50 years bit <grin>

I've looked everywhere on-line to find out why the P-51 conks out in mid flight:  flightplan is 560 miles.  Cruising between 3000 and 4000, rpm 2400, man 30000, eng temp 100, oil barely hot, fuel - once assigned ext tank ran out, but switch had no effect (usually works in the spit). last two times switched ext tank around 3 lbs early.  Almost like clockwork, the engine failed and down I went.  Restart is impossible - even ctrl + e...

Google's AI mentioned the obvious - switching tanks; overheating

This started recently, straddling the recent sim update, so I'm not thinking it's that.  I only see people on about take-offs, but has anyone flown over 150 miles in it in the conditions I've listed?  I did fine on a 225 mile flight, managing the tanks just last week.

Criticism of AH aside, has anyone a clue about why the plane is conking out so reliably?
