I was really hoping they would show off what the new scenery system looks like - think they probably were as well since Ben was working on it on the plane (9.20 timestamp).

That aside, hilarious how the conclusions at the end were all "othersim should probably think about trying to do this and that as well". Tacit admissions Xplane 12.1+ is/has at least edged ahead in graphics and visuals.

All in an excellent keynote that properly considered the broader audience they were addressing (most of whom the entire keynote will be the first time they've seen even the "old" stuff), didn't ramble, stuck to the things people think they care about. Among, if not the best job of communicating the awesomeness that is X-Plane they have delivered to date.

The only thing I found disappointing was on stream was the Nimbus presentation. We couldn't see the entire presentation during the time most of the scenery upgrade of Atlanta and JFK was being shown with the new feature. Then he show off KCLT which I have ask him years ago during the X Plane 11 run and now he wants to start doing them for MSFS as if there's not enough of them over there?  The 707 really looks slick, the mission tool is nice touch.

Yes, it was a bit strange not to see the images. Here is the full seminar for reference:

Hi,

Ton of AI coming to Flight sim this year. But I think CabbyAI and Sherley are going to be overshadowed by SayIntentions AI. SayIntent AI seems to do ATC, CabbyAI announcements and has the ability to keep one company like Sherley all in one package. Aside frm all that it works with both 2020 and XPlane base platforms. Now at less than $200 for the year, wife says I'm in. hahahah Oh yeah!

Looking forward to today's presentations, although still disappointed about the lack of networking other than the bare minimum!!!

Excellent News!!!!

MSFS was the best thing that happened to XP users... It kicked the @#$$es of  helped pushing forward the LR Team and made Austin finally listen to long time claims by the user community in areas that were not so important to him.

The result has been a rather rapidly developing xp12, with excellent quality and powerful features coming in the near future...

Xp12 is a Great --> FLIGHT <-- simulator, and it's rapidly getting to the TOP!

Well from where I see it, it was LR decision to go the Vulkan/Metal api that was the best thing for X-plane users long before MSFS hit the scene. People who could not see the benefits in doing so (yet wanting all of those feature like volumetric clouds) back then during the conversion is now witnessing the results. The appearance that LR is listening to the user community has more to do with the ability of the graphic engine to deliver on this wish items that they couldn't before under Opengl. Their plans on what they are doing now have long been in the works. So of the older results where develiver after introduction to Vulkan is the ability to track the performance of sim vs plugin, utilizing moving process to the GPU and utilizing the VRAM to improve performance, better volumetric clouds with an improve weather engine, 3D water, dynamic season, just a few off the top of my head.

Now that they have a better handle of the Vulkan engine they are ready to introduce new feature that can run inside the GPU with better efficiency. The new weather radar comes to mind with sweeping scans and operate like the real thing that will run inside the gpu just an example. Taking advantage of more cores where they were unable to do before.  Solve the long problematic performance issue after the introduction Zink for AMD user.  All of these things are made possible because LR made to proactive decision to move to a modern graphic and I believe in more in given credit where credit is due.

Well seen... @BobFS88

made Austin

These days I think you mean Ben? Austin's FM bug fixes in v12 have been coming from bug reports from folks like Murmur and Alexis. Not from 'sobo-envy.

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

$30 per month, lol.

"Don't call him Shirley" cost too much, as any AI subscription based flightsim service. Soon one flight will cost us around 10 bucks, and our wives will finally find a proper reason to look at us with a pinch of evil.

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

I honestly can't see any feature that made it to XP12 that was influenced by the release of MSFS. The only thing that comes to mind is the 3rd parties marketplace.

Stuff like 3D water were already touched early in the v11 run, as well as the desire to change lighting, clouds, weathet etc...

It is the Vulkan/Metal transition that was needed, mostly.

Also seems like this road map can be updated as well:

They are already working on static descriptor sets & concurrencies, as mentioned by Ben in the seminar.

Can't wait till mesh shaders are WIP officially, though.
