I don't think anyone here is saying PMDG has a LEGAL obligation to sell their stuff to anyone, but as customers we do have a right to discuss our disappointment in their decisions. Good faith is not legally obligatory, but it is a good business practice, especially when you sell entertainment products that are optional wants and not needs. What more do you have other than the interest and following of your customers?

A business decision to exit a market that has become too small has nothing to do with good faith. It's simply a business decision. The majority has moved platforms.

Will PMDG keep space on their servers for people that have purchased their product for P3D. That may cause a legal issue.

Cmakris from PMDG already answered that question today:

If you have it, we will not remove it. Users still have access to FS9 products they bought

. So it makes me thing it is not related to space of their servers. As someone said, probably because they don't want to deal anymore with new custumer services on those old products.

We will see if those products come back in a few days. If not, well it really caught everybody by surprise even if it makes sense for them to do it.

I'm not surprised.

I understand that many payware developers have chosen to move on to the other sim, since if they want to remain in business they have to go where the sales are, but they should not abandon their P3D customers.  This means fixing any remaining issues and making the products available on their servers.  If they completely abandon P3D, then they should do what other payware outfits have done and make their P3D products freeware at some point.

These guys are flightsimmers as well, so one would think they would show some understanding and loyalty to their fellow flightsimmers.  Sadly, as with many things in life, it's all about the Benjamins.

FSL have produced a Concorde for P3D

Yes, but at a loss to the company. Quoting Andrew from a couple of weeks ago:

Sales on P3D were never going to cover the cost of development; the focus is on MSFS and has been for sometime.

They are really going to have to come up with something innovative because if they add another A320 to the mix they are toast.

They stated that the products will still be available on their servers for the existing users as they said even the fsx products are still available. If they don't come back, it is just that they will not be available anymore to new custumers.

About fixing issues, well, don't count on it. Does someone really believe them when they said that they will fix and update their P3D products once their full line of products will be available in msfs? If it was not done one year ago when P3D was already in full decline, who really expect it to be done in a year or two from now?

I don’t even use the thousand plus dollars of products much anymore simply because I don’t like to be reminded of those people.

That's insane, man.

I don't like Steve Ballmer, Bill Gates, Sundar Pichai, or Tim Cook, but damned do they make some good products and I'm gonna use them.

MilViz did the same thing.

They stated that weekly sales on P3D were in the single digits and every unit sold was literally a loss for them due to bandwidth and support tickets.

I don't blame them one bit, frankly.

Kudos to MilViz for making the P3D products free. Makes me more inclined to buy the MSFS ones, tbh.

Well, after visiting the site, I notice that the "Prepar3D" sub section is still active. No products available, but the subsection is...

If it was me, I'd have eliminated the nav element altogether.

The fact that the P3D link is still there lends credence to the idea this is a temporary condition.

In any case, I still have The Queen to fly, so I'm set. 🙂

They had been working on the P3D 64-bit version for some time before MSFS appeared. So much time had been spent it would have illogical to abandon development. Plus the senior people there love the aircraft. I’m sure they’ll make money when the MSFS version arrives.

When MSFS becomes saturated with third party addons they will start having a problem, Asobo themselves are making detailed airliners as good as PMDG. And in the 2024 version it`s free.

If you watched the show Asobo are making airliners to such detail it outstrips the thrid party products, you can walk around and remove covers. I have not purchased any addons but the sim keeps getting updated with more aircraft.

Quite the opposite; it would have been the logical decision to abandon development. It's called Sunk Cost Fallacy, whereby the fallacy is the belief that continuing an endeavor that has become obsolete would mitigate the loss incurred by the resources spent on it, while the reality is that it only exacerbates the loss because even more resources are spent on it, and the previous resources can't be recouped (they are sunk).

For example, if I bought a ticket to go see a movie but then realized the movie sucks, the first instinct may be to go see the movie anyway because I already paid for it. However, I'm not going to get the money back, and I'm only making it worse because I sit through a movie I don't even want to see, wasting not only my money but my time, too. So not going would be the logical decision since I would waste my money, but not also my time.

I can't imagine FSL were unaware before release that the Concorde for P3D would turn out to be a loss, so they most likely just finished it out of passion, willing to accept the financial penalty that came with finishing it.

I mean it's not free, because you're paying for it by buying the sim.

More importantly, it remains to be seen how good the 737 MAX in MSFS2024 will be. They said it's going to be their most detailed aircraft yet, but I still don't see that being PMDG/Fenix level. Probably Working Title 787 level, maybe Aerosoft, possibly slightly above that but still short of the top addons.
