I can't imagine FSL were unaware before release that the Concorde for P3D would turn out to be a loss, so they most likely just finished it out of passion, willing to accept the financial penalty that came with finishing it.

That’s just what they did. Let’s end Concorde discussion now please. I made a passing reference to it and that’s it. The topic is PMDG and their P3D products.

They could of left the product on their website.  It wouldn't have harmed them.  There are still some people buying the P3D product and they don't want to move to any other flight sim platform.🙂

That's insane, man.

I don't like Steve Ballmer, Bill Gates, Sundar Pichai, or Tim Cook, but damned do they make some good products and I'm gonna use them.

I know it is bro, but I now have the IFly options, and in the last several months have been studying the Airbus by FS Labs. I think soon I’m going to be flying a MD11🙂 All in my favorite platform.

I am sensing a lot of heat in the discussion. Let's all calm down, shall we? I hope that even if PMDG does not decide to update any time soon their P3D products they will remain in our simulators, no matter the situation. After all even if we are smaller part of the market compared to MSFS I think we deserve proper treatment as customers. Hopefully. I will personally mention that right now I am talking to a friend with interest to buy P3D nvm MSFS is the main simulator on the market. He wants to have access to all the PMDG planes which is inspiring, I never tough that in 2024, when MSFS is basically the leader on the market someone will have such a strong interest in P3D v5.

I use P3Dv5, but let's face it there won't be anything new for it. Just look at the posts in this forum. It's mainly a rehashing of old posts and some of them are several years old. I'm not happy about all this, but what can you do? Maybe if the Microsoft servers are so overloaded that MSFS becomes unusable, perhaps some people will come back to P3D, but that's the only way. Like I said, I will still use it especially since you don't need to be connected to the internet for it to work. Ah, the old days were less complicated. You just shoved in the disc and off you went.

I have a friend who has a full home cockpit together with the ProSim 737. He has pretty much all the European airports. One aircraft is fine for him.

I have five aircraft ranging from the Vertx DA-62, Carenado PC12, PMDG737, XP Lear 25 and FSL Concorde. That’s enough variety for me. I’m more of a procedural flier than low-level VFR one. The quality of the scenery in v5 is just fine for me.

I’m still buying airports for various places around the world. The beauty is knowing the sim is always available, is rock solid and still a delight to use especially now I have 30fps at the most demanding airports with 100+ AIG Ai aircraft.

Everyone is free to use the sim of their choice and for me, v5 suits me fine.

Despite being active on the PMDG forum I have yet to receive a reply from RR regarding the future of their aircraft for P3D. Disappointing. 😟

Just out of interest, why is he interested in a discontinued version of P3D and not the latest version?

I find it mildly amusing that while a fair few posters lament the exodus of developers from the P3D scene,

they themselves choose to not support their platform of choice, by declining to purchase the latest offering

of said flight sim.

If you watched the show Asobo are making airliners to such detail it outstrips the thrid party products, you can walk around and remove covers. I have not purchased any addons but the sim keeps getting updated with more aircraft.

Asobo/Microsoft pretty much looked at developers who made the sim better and subcontracted them. IniBuilds, Gaya, Orbx, WT and the like. 2024 is just one big 3rd part collaboration sold as a base product. P3D did it for years with some Carenado and India Foxtrot Echo aircraft. I understand Prepar3d is sold as a base platform for customer's preferred addons, but I always wondered why the LM team didn't contract Orbx to handle P3D V6's terrain, vegetation and autogen, Pilot's for Mesh,  Include some of the discontinued Milviz birds and contract Active Sky to be their default weather engine with the option of disabling it for another weather addon if so desired. I think that base package might have given V6 some more teeth and I would have done more than the one month sub to try it out but alas its their product and decision.

I honestly, don't know. I offered him to take v4 because there is plenty of working addons for it. And I told him that v6 is lacking addon, I mean official ones and he might have to do a lot of registry work to make the ORBX or any addon to work with it. The guy is more on the user side, he often asks me about tweaks and stuff, also he uses me a little as knowledge base. After all I am a tweaker, also making scenery and textures for the sim, so he uses me, which I don't mind at all. It's his choice, I do not intervene.

In end MSFS will be an Asobo product MS will only fund it for so long PS said that.

Presumably there's either a cost on the front-end in selling the products, or on the back-end in supporting new customers, that has made it not worth it relative to whatever volume their P3D products were still selling.  They aren't going to remove profit from the table for no reason - unless it's not profit at all. That simple really.

I took the comments as pretty clearly indicating PMDG are just not selling P3D stuff any more, but like pretty much every company they aren't going to categorically rule out ever bringing them back for no reason.

Other companies might have different setups that change the cost calculation for them, and so they'll keep selling them.

The beauty of P3D is, you can use the discontinued version as long as you wish, no force updating.

Aerosoft still seems to have them for sale.

But no 737NGXu for v5. Just the older NGX for v4. All the stranger when the 777 for v5 is available.
