Why? They produced the best 737 for P3D. I haven’t come across any serious failings and I’ve flown it for years.

Was facing a dilemma of whether to finally buy the 777 or not, given the state of PMDG's attitude towards P3D.

Happy that they made the decision for me. Long live the TFDI MD11!

Unbelievable!  I had just logged on to their site because I finally decided to buy the DC-6 and now it's gone forever 😪

Ever since MSFS came out - PMDG have neglected their P3D customers. Not a single announcement or update regarding for those who were looking forward some updates to existing P3D products. Their response is "They will evaluate P3D development once the entire fleet has been brought to MSFS" that was like 2-3 years ago. Since then absolutely nothing. I personally stopped investing in any new PMDG products primarily because of their attitude towards P3D customers.

In yet another amazing PR move, Randazzo shuts the thread over there and makes no comment.

I am absolutely loathe to give them money again.  Not to mention that forum has become a toxic environment, with a couple of members who seem to be there and allowed to make posts just to be sarcastic and wind people up.

On a separate note - I have been enjoying their NGXu lately. Was disappointed to see single engine flying requires no rudder though!  After initial takeoff, you can fly around with zero rudder trim and zero rudder input and there is no yaw.  Apparently they did this to make singe-engline taxi possible (https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/pmdg-737-ngxu-for-prepar3d-v4/93379-engine-out-no-yaw-movement) but it's a bit of a glaring problem.  The PMDG planes work very well on the surface (mostly - there are still lots of things they claim are sim limiations that other developers have got around - e.g. engine spool which FSL got right years ago), but dig any deeper and there is not a lot there.  The take home - use it for normal ops and that's about it.

I still get to understand why the rudder of PMDG 737 NGXU is making gear and wings level to be improper aligned when I approach. Hh, this is a real pain for me.

for those of you wanna see - I am sharing a video in the spoiler. To see how bad I land this plane.

Quite the opposite; it would have been the logical decision to abandon development. It's called Sunk Cost Fallacy, whereby the fallacy is the belief that continuing an endeavor that has become obsolete would mitigate the loss incurred by the resources spent on it, while the reality is that it only exacerbates the loss because even more resources are spent on it, and the previous resources can't be recouped (they are sunk).

For example, if I bought a ticket to go see a movie but then realized the movie sucks, the first instinct may be to go see the movie anyway because I already paid for it. However, I'm not going to get the money back, and I'm only making it worse because I sit through a movie I don't even want to see, wasting not only my money but my time, too. So not going would be the logical decision since I would waste my money, but not also my time.

I can't imagine FSL were unaware before release that the Concorde for P3D would turn out to be a loss, so they most likely just finished it out of passion, willing to accept the financial penalty that came with finishing it.

Reminds me of the lyrics in the Gambler by Kenny Rogers:

Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run"...

I always wondered why the LM team didn't contract Orbx to handle P3D V6's terrain,

Why? Your answer in one word: photogrammetry.  I don't think Orbx True Earth technology would have had a chance competing against photogrammetry.  Google Earth maybe but not True Earth.

The beauty of P3D is, you can use the discontinued version as long as you wish, no force updating.

Agree. For me the beauty of P3D (v4.5 specifically) is that it is obsolete and the code is frozen. No updates. No changes. No internet. If it works now, it'll continue to work for as long as I continue using the same OS and equipment. It's like owning antique furniture or a painting.

There is no such thing as obsolete when it is still usable. No matter how old it is. My sim looks great and it is complete replacement of MSFS2020 because unlike you I know how to tweak. And tweaking is the life of an flight simulator or any object for that matter. I can show you something in spoiler so you can see how camera from 1989 can take beautiful photo in 2024 without any noise on it.

Calling a sim obsolete because of an other sim that is " more new" [ it is not, because it uses the same core engine, since 2006] does not mean that P3D users should be abandoned for no apparent reason from a company that owes it's popularity no other reason but exactly P3D users. Because no matter how new new sim is this does not change the fact that 2014 was the golden sim year since P3D had realistic PMDG planes before even then.

Let me make a difference here - True Earth are photoreal packages from ORBX usable in Prepar3D and X-Plane. Photogrammetry is technology to display ground objects in MSFS2020.

I find this twist of the subject quite annoying, since we here talk about PMDG withdrawing their support for P3D products on their shop. This is not connected to a scenery technologies and their obsolete or not obsolete ways of creating photoreal imagery for a flight simulator. That's why my previous response might be too rough mind the fact we are in the p3d forum, not in MSFS2020 forum. Thank you.
