Is the PMDG 777 a superior ADDON to the PMDG 737?

Featured Replies

Let me reiterate: this question is all about the fidelity of the addon, and nothing about the IRL differences between the jets.

I.e., I don't care about range / long haul, pax count, IRL operators, Big Iron/Heavy Jet, etc., etc.

I have their 737 and am quite satisfied with it, but in terms of a heavy jet, their 747 is what I'm looking for. HOWEVER, If the 777 is big step forward in general airliner operations, my mind is open.

Did PMDG substantially raise the bar with their 777, and if so, how...? Like, is it worth the extra coin if I already have the 737, or is it just a bigger Boeing?

    I get that it's your opinion but there are worlds between a 767 or a 747-400 and a 787.

Well, setting aside all of the differences in these aircraft I think the 777 is more polished and finished than the 737. It is operating very well for me and I have done a couple of medium and 5 long haul (over 6 hours) flights in it. The ground service handling is better designed and integrated in the tablet, and it feels more like an aircraft when I am in it -- even after 3 years PMDG has still not figured out how to have the cockpit door in the 737 open and close. I am quite enjoying it!

In my opinion yes, 777 is top of the line PMDG product

Yes. Mostly due to the ACARS stuff, but also because in general the 777 is a more complex aircraft. It's *very* different from the 737, not like the A320 and A330 which are very similar in terms of systems and cockpit layout. The 777 is basically 20 years younger than the original 737 airframe and design concept. The 777 is very similar to a 787 systems-wise.

The 747 is also my favourite aircraft, but the 777 is a great aircraft and great addon. And the 747 will likely take 1 or 2 more years for PMDG.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

757-787 all just start to blur into the same one boring plane for me.

Well, the 757 and 767 share a type rating, so what I said is just as true for comparing a 757 and 787.

It can do RF legs, the 737 cannot at the moment. On that basis, yes.

777 has a fully modelled cabin which the 737 lacks.

From what I've seen. Substantially? No.

There are things like a working weather radar, improved LNAV, more features in the UFT, and some more other minor features.

Whether that's sufficient for you to consider that as 'substantial,' only you can decide.

AMD Ryzen 5800X3D; MSI RTX 3080 Ti ; 32GB Corsair 3200 MHz; ASUS VG35VQ 35" (3440 x 1440)
Fulcrum One yoke; Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack Airbus edition; MFG Crosswind rudder pedals; miniCockpit FCU; CPFlight MCP 737; Logitech FIP x3; TrackIR

MSFS; Fenix A320; A2A PA-24; HPG H145; PMDG 737-600; AIG; RealTraffic; PSXTraffic; FSiPanel; REX AccuSeason Adv; FSDT GSX Pro; FS2Crew RAAS Pro; FS-ATC Chatter

@UrgentSiesta

I understand your questions. If you're having trouble understanding the differences and competitiveness between these two additional aircraft, further explanation might not help. It might be best to fully understand the systems and operational performance of each aircraft to make a sound decision. There are many similarities between the 747 and 777, both in terms of systems and operational performance, but not between the 737 and 777.
Now, both have unattended bugs that some see and some don't, ultimately it's just your preference/decision.

This isn't fully modelled enough for you?
