MSFS hangs on "checking for updates"

must be a server issue. After 3 or 4 minutes it continued a bit  and just stucks again with a nearly black screen ... now after a total time (safe mode) of 10 minutes I'm in again, but marketplace is still greyed out.

Is quickly becoming a 'Part Time' simulator

Same thing for me too.

The problems for me started about an hour ago after instead of displaying the images during the upload it displayed a black screen with only the descriptions of the images and did not finish the upload.

From the next upload it remains stuck on "CHECKING FOR UPDATES".

Yep.  I've been having the checking for updates issue for about an hour or so here in the UK 1430 BST 1330 UTC.

MS server problems are getting far to regular for my liking and I suspect, like most of you I am getting sick and fed up with it.

Yes. I'm getting this. Best not to fiddle to try to fix it. Also can't access flightsimulator.com.  Major MS outage again would be my guess.

I agree with the sentiment that it is quite common for outages to occur with this sim
