Any Love for Quality Wings?

I have the B 787 and the BAe 146/AVRO 146. I love them as they will run however you decide. Cold and dark or ready to roll.
Fairly well detailed too.
The 787 isn't cheap, $80 but the BAe 146 was $20.

It's surprising that QW products are still on sale due to the fact that the team completely disappeared from radar more than one year ago.

Do they still offer support on their forum?

Not in recent months. For me the 787 is worth the price, other users will respond to any support requests in the forum. The developers appear to have moved on to other things some time ago.

I really liked their 757 collection. I never did see if it fully works in P3D v5.4. One day I will have to try it.

It works!

@Deltaguy

Do you mind sharing how you got the QW757 to work in P3Dv5.4?  Would be most grateful!

Now, on to the 787 - I really wanted to like this bird, but could not get the AP/VNAV to work properly.  I could not get VNAV to start descent at T/D and it would go crazy when I tried LVL CH.

I don't think I was doing anything incorrectly as I was following a good set of normal procedures.  I read where others also had issues with VNAV, so again, I don't think it was me missing something.

I've got thousands of hours in Boeing a/c in flight simulators, so I'm quite familiar with their standard operating procedures.  I say this not to brag, but to indicate my familiarity and level of competency in those aircraft.  If anyone has figured out how to get the 787 VNAV to work properly, I could not thank them enough!

Kindest regards & clear skies,

Glenn

I haven't used the 787 in a few months but I do not remember having VNAV problems using it in v5.4. Unfortunately with summer so short here in Canada I save my simming for the long dark cold winters but maybe I can try a test run in a few days to double check.

There are definitely VNAV, as well as many other issues with the QW787. The airplane continually goes above and below the descent profile and does the same with airspeed. It also disregards speed restrictions at waypoints. As a former real world B777 driver, I can also say that there are many other system related items that don't function properly, but there are too many to mention in one post. I gave up trying to point these out to the developer several years ago, since they never bothered to fix anything. The few updates that were released didn't do much. They were more concerned with eye candy, such as PBR than making the airplane more realistic.  Definitely nowhere near PMDG standards. For a simmer who isn't familiar with the real airplane, many of the system functionality items would probably go unnoticed.

Thanks for the confirmation.  Mine shall remain a hangar queen!

Interesting, I have never had those issues with the 787, I personally think it is great for it's price point and target audience.   It is a bit slippery while descending, but so is the real thing as I have been told.

The 146 wants you to calculate exact thrust based on rwy, wx, alt. There are many such items to work out.

It can be a lot of work. May not be perfect, close though.

For those who use both P3D and MSFS2020 how does the QW787 compare with updated 787s on the other sim.  Just want an honest opinion on the comparative merits of both - not trying to start a sim vs sim war.  Thanks

These are my pros and cons from each 787 sim:

QW:
- Payware
- EFB tends to act up, specially when setting fuel and payload, and calculating takeoff. No keyboard input available.
- No Simbrief import (but there's the option of pasting a flightplan string, so no big deal). But weights and fuel need to be inserted manually from the EFB.
- Very hard and burdensome process for updating airport layout for displaying in ND.
+ Charts are imported directly from the navdata you have installed.
+ FMC clickspots are bigger, and you can use the keyboard for filling in data.
+ 2D popups! And even a 2D panel, if you search for it.
+ All doors open.
+ Better FDE (or at least, I like it better).

Asobo (+Horizon+Kuro)
+ Freeware (well, you had to pay more for the base sim because of the Premium Deluxe version).
+ EFB feels more user friendly. You can use the keyboard.
+ Flightplan, fuel and payload can be imported from Simbrief.
+ Airport display in ND is based on whatever you have installed in sim. No user intervention required.
- I don't know if I can read charts in EFB. If so, I guess a Navigraph Charts subscription is required (too much money for my liking)
- FMC clickspots are smaller; no way to use keyboard (AFAIK).
- No 2D popups.
- Only L1,R1 and R4 open, as well as front cargo.
- Twitchy FDE, doesn't feel like a heavy. 789 is prone to tailstrikes.

The FDE and door issues are the ones that push me back to QW. Also, there's the Jump Ahead function in the QW bird (that very few aircraft have). But I have to admit I love the way airport layouts are automatically updated in the MSFS versions.

What version of P3D are you using with your QW787?

I'm a big fan of the QW757 and fly it regularly in both FSX and P3D V4.5, i also have a soft spot for the 146. The 757 is one of the few aircraft that i can fly pretty well and it feels quite immersive with the inbuilt announcements. I would buy the 787 but i am kind of put off by the asking price.
