Mandatory Update today 8th August

Featured Replies

During update times, the sim goes squirrely. Not just slow DL speeds but performance and stutters. All is perfect now. No problems at this hour and DL speeds in MSFS are back to normal. Nothing was broken the last day. Just clogged.

I hope ms2024 does not clog with so much stuff in the cloud.

  • Well, if you have a perfectly running sim, and you come home, start MSFS, install a mandatory update from Asobo, and it breaks your sim, whose fault is that?

Only time I turn on my VPN is to download MSFS updates.  Without the VPN the download often goes down to zero.  With the VPN on, I get 100MBs plus.

  • MSFS sure have screwed things up. Removing PMDG 777 & 738 did nothing for me. Still working my way through my community folder instead of flying! What a waste of time. About time software companie

I think it’s a random issue that affects a minority of users, but I do think it’s related to the update. In my case, the sim was fine (except the connection issues), but immediately after the update a lot of weird stuff happened.

Indeed.

My word!  What have they done?  Are there any release notes for this update?  It was just supposed to be a World Hub and AIRAC update wasn't it?

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I spent 6  hours so far today, replacing the One Store folder in MSFS with a backup that I had from last week. Emptied community folder, and installed one item at a time. When I got to the Fenix, the sound cutting out and sim freezing for a few seconds at a time returned. Removed the Fenix, put the PMDG 737 in the Community folder, and everything works perfectly. Seems this latest update has caused a conflict with the Fenix. I was thinking about doing a complete reinstall of MSFS, but the One store folder I replaced today, pretty much accomplishes the same thing. Of course as soon as I fired up MSFS, the mandatory update ran again, so back where I started.

Exactly - that's why these issues don't make sense at all. Shouldn't affect compatibility with 777 and Fenix.

Unless something is wrong with the One Store folder (which is probably unlikely). That happened to me earlier this year, but the symptom was an error message upon sim start - something about missing packages. I had to do a complete reinstall.

A World Update earlier in the year busted some apps in VR, so odd things can happen any of these updates regardless of what is actually being updated.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

OK, I finally located the problem after working on this for two days.

I uninstalled and reinstalled MSFS 2020.....No Help

I updated GPU drivers, and audio drivers    No Help

I reinstalled the PMDG, 777, and Fenix A 320     no help

I checked memory with a memory tester   32 GB was fine

Finally I put Task Manager up, and when the CPU would momentarily stop as well as the audio cut out, I noticed on the Task Manager that my AV, which I have used for over 7 years, Webroot,it's cpu usage jumped way up. This coincided with the symptoms I was having.  I uninstalled, Webroot, and the sim is running like a clock again.

What must have happened in the last update, something was inserted into MSFS, that Webroot objected to. Maybe some of the small airports, who knows. But anyway, it is fixed. 😁😏

In my humble opinion, products like Webroot today offer no additional protection over built-in Windows Defender and UAC. You'd be better off using a free DNS filter like OpenDNS to help avoid dodgy web sites.

Businesses are now using EDR/MDR agents like SentinelOne or the now famous CrowdStrike, but they are not aimed at retail purchase.
