Uninstalling MSFS 2020

Featured Replies

I think I am going to uninstall and reinstall MSFS due to a problem that I can't seem to fix, after latest update.   Here is my question, when you uninstall MSFS, I heard that there are folders that also have to be deleted, before reinstalling the sim. The largest one of course is the One Store folder. Does anyone know where the other folders are located ( I have MS Store version), so that when I reinstall the sim,, everything will be brand new?  I have searched around, and can't seem to find any info on this.

I am by no means an uninstall expert, but if you go via Settings>Apps>uninstall it should wipe everything clean...

Then look into user/AppData/Local/Packages/Microsoft.Flightsimulator...funny numbers+letters if you find anything or if there is anything left

I do not remember having to do anything unusual when I reinstalled msfs a while back... But it is Microsoft - you will never know.....

Good luck!

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

I did the same thing about a month ago Bob - uninstalled and cleaned everything from the PC...

I only left my community folder and moved that to another drive so i can remember what i had when i install MSFS2024..

I had too many issues toward the end so just couldnt justify the time to reinstall with November just around the corner...

All the best though with yours!

Please bear in mind that fully uninstalling will also remove all 17 World Updates and any Marketplace purchases that you might have made.
Reinstalling will only put back the basic simulator, so there will be as much work again, if you want to add back the rest.
Also, the simulator works very well in a stable Windows environment, so it is possible that the problem does not lie with the simulator and
that a complete reinstallation could prove to be a complete waste of time, bandwidth and effort.

Follow the link posted above and try the 'Verify and Repair' option before doing an uninstall. I had an issue with the sim recently and the repair option only took a few minutes to complete. I lost nothing from the sim and it's been ok since.

For what it's worth, I have done an uninstall-reinstall of MSFS2020 twice, and did not do anything to the One Store folder in the process. As noted above, most of the time required is the re-installation of the World Updates from Content Manager. As far as add-ons are concerned, if you use Addon Linker (which I think you  do), those are stored separately and do not require any reinstallation.

P.S. It turned out that neither of the reinstalls I did solved the problem I had. This is in line with the experience of many others reported in this forum, leading me to believe that very few issues with MSFS are corrected by reinstalling the program.

For just a second there, I thought that Bob had decided to uninstall MSFS and return to P3D

Well, as of this morning, I have the PMDG 737 working properly, no freezing of MSFS or audio glitches, so I am going to leave well enough alone till MSFS 2024 is released.
