I wonder if 2024 can use a copy of 2020 community?

When they showed the current Vs new DEM slides side by side there was no change for Switzerland which is a shame, all is got it's a few POIS and an airport (hardly worthy of including it in the title), seems the bulk of the new DEM will be Germany.

I guess that's because they already have a very high-res DEM for Switzerland.

You can't predict that?

Many addons need to be upgraded to work well in 2024. You would have a 2020 version and a 2024 version of the same plane, for instance. They will not be the same. I don't know how many planes this would effect. It's about the 15:00 in the video when Martial mentioned this.

Airplanes okay, but what about all the scenery. They said that it should be backwards compatible and that the scenery should work.

And the World Update after the new DACH one will be Brazil in December.

Well that is against what was originally said, so have they moved the goal posts now?  I got worried when I heard some Blackbird aircraft due out in the near future will be 2024 only.

So, I hope this is handled well or it could be a problem for 2024 transition.  I have about £1.5k of addons for 2020 after a quick count up, so I will be disappointed if they need a paid update, or will stop working in 2024 because the developer does not wish to update.

"Many addons need to be upgraded to work well in 2024".  We need to know what that means.  It is no small thing.

The other thing is the licencing.  How do we get around using two installs of a product?  And a lot of installers auto detect the Community folder, so how will that work now if there are two different folders?

There are only a few months to go now, and this isn't certain and there is very little accurate information on it, yet MS / Asobo should know this at this stage.
If they don't, I am worried, but if they do, they are being cagey about releasing the information for some reason.
I hope they don't grab defeat from the jaws of victory here, but being Asobo, I have a severe lack of confidence.

Why not EDDL :o...

Second Airport for EDDM, third for LOWS

Will Gaya EDDM better than Simwings ?

Because the update focusses on the Alps region and EDDL is not really in the vicinity... 😉

It was middle of the scale, Germany will have a better dem when updated.

Jörg confirmed that the new aerials are the same as in MSFS2024, which is a bit of a bummer, at least in the case of Switzerland. The new imagery may be more up to date than the current one, but unfortunately the aerials were taken at different times of the year and it’s therefore a bit of a patchwork with marked transitions between the different seasons. I don't quite understand why they didn't just stick with Swisstopo’s imagery. It's better and the latest version is even more up to date in some places.

Very disappointed that they are not doing anything more on these topics:

Multi - Monitor Configuration - they are just taken away the name "experimental" and say it is done. The state of this is nothing compared to what we have in P3D and XPLANE.

Hide the virtual cockpit for Home Cockpit users . Not done anything and will not implement anything.

Really disappointed with this. Even if they could just introduce the ability to adjust the zoom for each monitor/screen independently I'd be please. Really disappointed to hear they've parked this moving forward.

I agree, current imagery looks better.

Well yeah, they already have the best DEM Switzerland offers, which is better than what Germany is getting.

"Many addons need to be upgraded to work well in 2024".  We need to know what that means.  It is no small thing.

That's not what he said at all. He said, “We want people to be able to upgrade their planes to a 2024 standard, and when you do that, you have to keep the same name because we want the reference from one file to another to be preserved.” So the point is not that aircraft currently flying in MSFS are not compatible with 2024, but that if a developer wants to add features like banner towing, crop dusting, firefighting, skydiving and whatever else they have in stock, they will no longer be backwards compatible with 2020. Also, his comment was in response to the question of whether they will share the identical community folder to save space, but no one is stoping you from copying your community folder from 2020 to 2024.
