August 22, 20241 yr Don't get me wrong, but I'm done with MSFS Photogrammetry! I love the way it details most buildings, BUT, it creates weird shapes and pillars made of stone that certainly don't exist. I don't get real trees when it's on, like palm trees in Florida or anywhere else where they exist. I like to fly in Florida a lot! When I turn it off, all is "right with the world". All the appropriate trees show themselves and there are no "other worldly" shapes and stone pillars to be seen. Sorry to turn it off, because I love the details, but I like to use MSFS as a VFR sim mostly, and flying low and slow doesn't provide me with any satisfaction with Photogrammetry on! August 23, 20241 yr I'm on a PG break too, to test performance. I fly the Fenix so I rarely even notice PG rocketing out of an Int'l airport at 160kts. August 23, 20241 yr Just turn it off but leave Bing imagery on you get autogen on top of the Bing images and the buildings match pretty close to real life even my house is very similar in auto gen form to real life. Looks way better than melted buildings that photogrammetry makes plus better FPS Edited August 23, 20241 yr by z06z33 ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170

Perhaps you just don't want to give your opinion, and that's ok too. The photogrammetry debate has been going on since MSFS2020 started four years ago. Everyone on the forum has long since decided on its pros and cons, and made his or her decision whether to use it. My question is whether there is any value in continuing this argument ad infinitum.
August 23, 20241 yr Maybe he's new? Newbies aren't going to read back through four years of discussions 😄 everyone can rant if they wish, no matter how small, big or trivial the subject. If you don't like it or don't want to read it then don't open the thread, don't respond, it's not hard 👍 As for the topic title I fly VFR all the time so have PG on, I do notice a lot of rubbish with it at times but mostly it looks brilliant when it all syncs together. August 23, 20241 yr Well TIN is not good for capturing trees. But it is good for capturing rock formations and buildings. And that is what is important to me. If you have ever seen a TIN captured mountain, you want them all to look like that.
August 23, 20241 yr I don't know why some people have such bad performance with PG even though they say they use high enough T-Lod and have a decent connection, I've never had any problems with it myself. Start a flight at KWHP, fly low over the photogrammetry and state whether there are problems with it. On the flip side, the photogrammetry with the new UK update is amazing. Perhaps you just don't want to give your opinion, and that's ok too. Good. In your frustration, you came here for a discussion and to see if others concur with your view and experience similar feelings - I get it. Don't ever let the bullies shut you up. The forum would be a pretty boring place if some of them got their way. The ones asking for threads to be shut down are the worst - wannabee moderators. they seem incapable of just skipping over a thread or post they don't like. The ultimate display of insecurity I think. Anyway, as for photogrammetry, I feel it is a great concept but not always the best implementation unfortunately. So, I dip in and out. I like to see the cities if they are done well, but the blobby trees and rocks can be jarring to the eye as you say, so I always turn it off for bush flying or cross country. As others have said, the Autogen on top of the Bing maps data does a pretty good job in general, and I get a small but noticeable performance increase from it. So luckily, turning off photogrammetry isn't a show-stopper. I just see it as an option for different use cases. I am interested to see what they have done to improve the implementation with MSFS24. August 23, 20241 yr If you want to get up close wirh PG you will not have a great experience with it, but 1000 to 1590 feet or more it looks great and performs well in the main. The newer stuff in the city updates and more recent world updates is quite amazing. I enjoy a lot of the freeware stuff that is made using google images too, though it does not look or perform as well as the later asobo scenery. It's going to be interesting to see how the world looks in msfs2024 though. You have to understand that the technology for all of this is really in its infancy and will only get better as time goes by.
