MSFS 2024 Focused Dev Q&A Stream

Money is certainly one aspect (and not a secondary one), but I'd say the most important aspect is people, and people are what this hobby needs the most and has needed the most in the past two decades. That need has been in part helped by MSFS, but there's still plenty of room for improvement.

yeah that's obvious economics.

The missions aren't just a 'Go from Point a, do thing at point b and return to a'. They're simulated aviation careers.

Commercial aviation pilot is even one of them. In the interviews where they do talk about them, they take them seriously.

It's funny to see people scoffing at the missions considering how much third-party software that does exactly that is used. 🤔

Finally. 🙏

Unfortunately, almost 3 weeks until then. I also hope this opens the flood gates of info going forward (discovery series, more blog posts about the new sim etc).

It's not hard for me to see why MS is focusing on missions and tasks in MS2024. When I was using a non flight sim forum and write messages and post MSFS flight pictures, people ask or comment "and what are the goals of all this flying"?  "are there points?", "how do you win"?

MS is trying to introduce goals and achievements into their advertising videos for 2024.

That's not how they've described them for 2024.

The missions, as described by MS, obviously have goals and tasks to achieve above and beyond just doing a flight from A to B. MS is clearly trying to put goals into the game to widen the appeal of the sim.

Yes that much is obvious and I agree it is to directly bring in those gamers looking for Goals & Achievements, MS/Asobo would be stupid not to do this as there's a big market there which is great. I'm looking forward to the Missions and the Career option, the latter of which I'd welcome more info on but if they are doing it they need to do it better than the options we already have. I get a feeling it may be a basic version to get people involved but not as in-depth as NeoFly for example, especially as I don't think any of the current Career Apps are possible with the Xbox so at least they might get something to use which is good for them.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

Missions made by Microsoft can be expected to change the game coding in predictable and safe ways. So the missions don't need to be run by an outside app. So I would think that they can be run on Xbox.

Would be nice if they finally deliver a good ai model where airplanes land on the runways they are supposed to. And cirrus clouds.

Cirrus clouds are coming, in their "trailer analysis" portion of this year's FS Expo presentation they confirm it here (also about how the cloud lighting system is being improved):

Current system: i9 13900K, RTX 4090, 64GB DDR5 4800 RAM, 4TB NVMe SSD

What have they done to improve ATC and AI

are they planning on further weather improvements beyond Cirrus clouds and improved lighting

are there plans to improve water physics- Jorg stated at expo that they haven’t done anything with the water - imo this need much improvement.

are the missions procedural based

There has been numerous server issues - how do they plan to mitigate that for 2024

Can they go into more details with regards to the new game engine, anything new to add re ray tracing

example the latest UK update featuring a parched landscape - brown fields etc. how will that look with winter seasons (tress etc)

Nothing says we won't get anything else before then.

My disappointment is regarding what’s in the statement, not the smorgasbord of possibilities outside it.

At least when it comes to weather, you are 100% not right.

(Smokes pipe) I would surmise that you are 85% wrong.

MSFS’ live weather has improved its real world mirroring and blending of large scale weather patterns and local metars greatly over its time. I can’t think of any other sim giving a better global weather experience even with 3rd party injection.

Theres a long way to go, bugs, and the visual depiction (esp. clouds) has gone way down since launch and just makes me sad, but in terms of realistic weather, it can’t be beat.

How that weather affects aircraft is another story.
