Human beings are so easily fooled. Tell them it's a new version and they convince themselves it's much superior. 🙄

Good job we have such things as double blind placebo controlled trials.

To be entirely fair however, I'm not a great fan of Android either.

By far my favorite phone was a tiny LG that was the height and width of a pack of cigarettes, and less than a quarter inch thick.

Not a big fan of either of the two heavyweights but since I had to choose I went Android simply because of its more "open" architecture. Something akin to the Windows / MacOS choice (or lack thereof).

My Android-based Samsung phone does the exact same things an iPhone does at a fraction of the cost. I honestly don't get the whole "upgrading" to the latest iPhone thing every year.

I always get a kick out of the "new" features from the latest and greatest iPhone but they have already been a part of the Android world for 3-6 years.

Got an A02S Android phone.  Works great and syncs with my Chromebook computer.

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

Well, I have two Android based smartphones at the moment; one TCL and the other a Nokia. The latter is running some strange version of Android (I haven't bothered to look at the specs). What is strange is that a left-sideways swipe only occasionally will allow one to navigate "upstream". When it doesn't work, the only way to unfreeze the silly thing is to do a cold boot.

My second favorite was an Alcatel mini-flip phone. It made and received phone calls, imagine that! That's all it did mind you, but that was just perfect! Both it and the really tiny LG worked just fine. Sadly however, since neither of them would support 4G, they suffered a premature 'death'...  😧

Galaxy S21 Ultra for me. Its been a great phone. About 3 years old, I guess. Has a cracked screen now and the lens elements get jammed, so blurry photos.

It surprises me how many times tourists ask me for directions, when a phone with Google Maps could navigate them anywhere. Its mostly older people, 60 plus. I wouldnt dream of going to any new place without Google Maps with me.

Have you updated the software?

To be honest, no I have not. Since it is a newer phone than my workhorse TCL, I'm afraid that an update might be worse...

Absolutely love the fact that my iphone, 4 ipads, iWatch, all sync with each other and Apple is the LEADER in all new apps and innovations.  No doubt in my mind that Apple is the only way to go.  My wife and I and my 3 grown children swear by the reliability and innovations that come quickly to the iphone. Wouldn't ever think of going Android.

We need better teaching.

My old iPhone gave up the ghost so I needed a new one.

I got a new iPhone from T-Mobile and got them to set it up so it rings for incoming calls and I can call out.  Nothing more.  I never carry it around.  It sits on my desk 24/7.  I can't be bothered carrying it around like it is a piece of my anatomy.  If I miss a call they can call me back when I'm at home.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

I don’t particularly like phones and I refuse to carry a roof tile around in my pocket.

However, I do like photography and the fact is my youngest sons iPhone whateveritis has a simply astonishing camera built into it which is far, far more advanced than my Canon DSLR.

In the summer he came to RIAT with me which was good of him as he has no interest in aeroplanes whatsoever.

Whilst I was farting around changing lenses, exposure priorities, trying to remember how to switch to video mode, he was taking amazing stuff merely by holding his phone up.

It’s got me thinking….

Wunderplastik - does everything but trip the shutter... and that's likely coming in some future release with AI.

You can take amazing pics with a box Brownie (if you're old enough to remember those) or an Instamatic too, but you give up a lot of control.   The iPhone will do auto focus and auto exposure, and possible some color correction.  I'm not sure if it also has image stabilization.  I believe the image can be cropped before taking the pic, mimicking a decent zoom, probably with some loss of resolution.  You're probably giving up all other control to the camera, which for the general public isn't a bad thing.  The best thing is that large image rather than a viewfinder, not unlike a twin lens reflex camera, making overall composition easy.

You don't have to use it as a phone.  You might can get someone's outdated iPhone fairly cheap.  As a bonus, it also has a great flashlight and clock.  Download pics to your computer via the same cable you use to charge the phone.  Personally I find them awkward to use as a camera as you have to touch a spot on the screen to trip the shutter, but you can get used to that.  Borrow your son's iPhone and take a few pics... try before you buy. 🙂

My first "real" camera was an Argus C3 "brick".  Fully manual and I needed an external light meter.  I didn't mind a bit, but then I don't fly with auto-pilot in the sim either.. 😄  My last 35mm film camera was a Canon AE-1 with an f 1.2 lens.  Loved it.  Starting in the Argus days I had a B&W darkroom and a bulk film loader and got 4x5 prints down to 5 cents each in the early 1970's including film, paper and chemicals.  Much better than about 50 cents per shot with the ancient B&W Polaroid I learned photography on.

I do not have a cell phone.  I have a cordless land line phone (with three handsets) which is fine as I never leave the house alone and my wife has both iPhone and Android.  Having a phone in your pocket can be quite convenient.
