MSFS 2024 Downloads and Installs In 8 Minutes!

Featured Replies

From what I could tell, the 2020 download was going at a peak of around 320 Mb/s. Video starts at the relevant spot. Trying to post is as a clip was a pain.

Nice. That's a huge improvement over MSFS 2020.

I imagine if you have a decently fast internet and Microsoft’s servers don’t take a dump, it should be quick. Main game is only around 30gigs right?
It’s when thousands are trying to download at the same time I foresee issues.

GSX is still going to add another 3 minutes to start-up time, though. Along with anything else in your Community folder.

Don't blame GSX, MSFS current caching system for addons is some of the most ineffecient ways to do it. It's another kept-on feature from the ESP days, here's to hoping it's been scrapped for something more modern

Yes, startup time is much more important to me than download times. 5 minutes was way too long. Of course if this new thin client somehow becomes a source of startup delays many won't be happy.

Do people constantly throw negative shade on every bit of good news because they think it makes them seem smarter?

I've reinstalled MSFS 2 maybe 3 times in 4 years, the long download and time never bothered me. The only time it got frustrating was during Sim Updates when their download servers would run at 1mph. 8 minutes to download and install is nice, but it's no different from many other games I have on steam, many of which are much faster!

Having different opinions doesn't automatically mean "negative shade".

That's amazing. That was a huge issue with MSFS 2020 I feel; the install process. In the community it was a common complaint how slow and painful it sometimes was but having friends try it, or suggesting it to other people and them having to sit through that process and getting hit with some fantastically slow speeds, spending half- or even a full day getting it installed was a major detraction.

Good because if it was nine minutes I just wouldn't bother!

Great! This means the update download and install times might be quicker as well.

I can't wait to get my settings wiped in double quick time!  👍

I hope we can all look back and laugh at it all after installing MSFS 2024. "It was all just a step along the way to progress". 🙂

I have seen enough improvement that I am going to pre-purchase it tonight. One of the top two packs. Not sure which one yet.  Might as well go the whole hog I suppose as there is nothing else that interests me on the PC at the moment. 👍
