FS2024 is not ready ... and shouldn't be released

Featured Replies

All ... I am posting this topic to allow for those who are alpha testing Flight Simulator 2024 to weigh in. I was one of the mission developers for Microsoft Flight Simulator: Acceleration! and released many "home grown" missions for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Probably the most "known" mission was called "Palm 90."

And while I have some background in developing content for Flight Simulator, I will say that I am not Alpha testing Flight Simulator 2024 and chose NOT to release any missions or other content for Flight Simulator 2020 because it was not ready. The SDK was not ready. I have spent probably thousands of hours using the SDK for Flight Simulator 2020 to build airports and other content, but chose not to release any of that content, hoping that the SDK's shortcomings could be improved.

I have seen the preliminary content released by those invited by Asobo/Microsoft to the Grand Canyon, and some of the content so far created by the Alpha testing team.

It is not ready. And it would be a mistake for it to be released on November 19. That is my view. I hope others will chime in with their view.

  • Sounds like you missed out on a fortune making money for the most popular sim ever made.     Questionable business decision.

  • With all due respect,   If the mentality of some strong voices in avsim had their views we would all still be on a broken P3d platform. It really does seem to be the place for the metaphor

Questionable business decision.

It will be annoying to deal with all the growing pains like we did with 2020.

If you have the hard drive space keep both games loaded up. I plan on using 2020 for another year for airline flights while all the weirdness of a new game gets sorted out. 2024 does look and feel stunning so I can't wait for it to become a mature game.

I think your conclusion is spot on. So much is broken in 2024. It IS an Alpha. It probably needs another 3 to 6 months, assuming there is an open beta. I think these guys should have a come to ******* moment and push the release back.

What does any of that have to do with his comments about the product not being ready?

I didn't want to release content that didn't meet my own standards. You may be right that this cost me a fortune.

The point of alpha testing is to receive feedback. This is my feedback. I don't have to be on the Alpha testing team to provide feedback based on what I see others doing.

It would be a huge mistake to release this software in under 1 month. It is not even close to ready.

No successful software is released 1 month after this sort of alpha testing.

Just go use use something else and calm your nerves. There is other options.

It must be so frustrating for the devs / Jorg to drop in on threads like this, having explicitly and repeatedly told us it’s an alpha for telemetry sourcing, to say on the intro page for the download that it’s an alpha with many things missing and literally state it’s ‘solely for the purpose of telemetry’, to go as far as putting a warning that it’s an alpha just for telemetry purposes in the sim that you have to esc out of before you can use it, to go to all these lengths and still have people saying ‘it’s not ready for release’.

It frustrates the pants of me, and I haven’t gone to any of that effort to tell anyone it’s just an alpha for telemetry.

Appreciate your input. Yes, there are other options. I might be emotionally attached to this one, which might be clouding my judgement. Thanks, bro.

I thought I read that the technical alpha was not the most recent build of the sim and that people should expect missing features and bugs.  So why all the doom and gloom?  History keeps repeating itself.

Since I have no idea what state the sim is in (since I'm not a developer for it), my opinion about the state of the sim...doesn't exist yet.

Given that what we have for the weekend is a tech alpha meant to test Microsoft/Asobo's servers, infrastructure etc more than anything else, I don't think anyone's in a position to weigh in on whether MSFS2024 is ready based on the tech alpha experience.
