2024 controls total confusion

Anybody notice the propeller control is reversed? High pitch vs low pitch is reversed....full forward control should be low pitch and full back should be high pitch.

Yup, several controls are reversed. Some plane's 'look left/right' are reversed also.

  • Yes. You must first duplicate a profile and then rename it to whatever you want. Thereafter, any changes you make in that new profile will remain. Very confusing in the beginning but once you get it,

  • That's what I did, actually. rather time consuming process to get the new commands up and running. But now it is operational & almost completed. Kind of like building the death star. 😂

2) with this new profile selected in the correct section (General / Airplane controls ), start making the necessary assignements and at the end select "Apply to all" and "Make default" again under the cogwheel options;

3) Whenever you need a variant, say "RY B350 Stick", duplicate the "RY Basic Stick" with the B350 aircraft selected, and name it "RY B350 Stick" and start from there with the most specific assignments.

4) The "Specific" section will only show entries when aircraft developers create those specific properties for their models.

That was a great explanation, and a great help. I had basic settings configured, but this explanation makes it a lot easier to understand.

Indeed! 😅

I struggled for the first week setting up the controls. Did not fancy the new layout. I then sort of resigned and watched a YT tutorial. After that things fell into place - I *think* I understand the logic now. Maybe.

I have started to write down all the commands I use in 2020 to make the transfer easier, because from what I understand I can use the same keyboard layout that 2020 has, or am I wrong?

Yes. I wish it hadn't taken me a week until I realized that was an option 🤷‍♂️

Is there currently any aircraft, default or addon, that makes use of the "Specific" section?

When making binding assignments, say under the Airplane category, there are assignments labeled
AIrplane Analog
Airplane Axis
Airplane Digital

I assume Axis is for assigning something like the rudder or aileron axis control, Digital is for assigning a key or switch, but don't have a feel what the Analog option is for.

Your pen and paper to write everything down again what you assigned in the other options

Now, I am really confused.  I renamed the original general and aircraft profiles and now I set a few settings under the new name and come back, and they are not there.  Also, the original binding list does not appear any more.  I really would appreciate any help available.  I have already watched many videos on this subject and thought I understood it, but I sure don't.

I am afraid that I deleted all the default settings.  Is that possible?

Thanks, Howard

Found this in the MSFS2024 SDK:

  • DIGITAL - The input will regarded as being a digital "on/off" input
  • ANALOGICAL - The input will be considered as an analog input. Note that this is supplied for compatibility with certain joystick devices, but usually any analog input would use the Axis type.
  • AXIS - The input will be considered as some kind of analog input.

I set the trim to a hat switch on my VKB joystick. For some reason this control is analog only as far as I can tell, but I think it should be digital. It works, but the first press doesn't do much, but if you hold it down it slowly accelerates the trim. This is not as smooth as I would like. I feel that one press should change the trim and more presses change the trim in equal increments. It doesn't seem to work that way. I think 2020 behaved better. Again, I may have it set up wrong.

I tried assigning it to the throttle slider on the joystick as I have a separate throttle controller. This did not work well at all as it was far to active and I couldn't fine tune the trim at all with this setting. I tried lowering the sensitivity of the slider, but this didn't seem to have any effect, even when I set the null zone to a large number and turned the sensitivity way down. I really don't understand how changing the sensitivity had no effect on this axis. Many GA planes have a wheel you rotate so this seemed to an ideal solution, Unfortunately it was unusable for me. I know the throw on the small slider is not the same as a larger wheel, but i was hoping it would work.

Yes, it happened to me yesterday, that's a bug... or a new feature.
The only profile that remains for the joystick is the one I have created, not the default one, which has left without warning ! 😄

As one of the few using mouse inversion in 3d shooter games, is there any setting in MSFS to invert the mouse in walkaround mode? Or do I really have to switch the axis assignment?

Greetings, Chris

I think that quite a lot of players of first person games use inverted mouse. It is of course the correct way to do it, but I don't want to open up another can of worms

Of course it is THE ONLY way to do it 🤣 But I also did not want to go down this route. Well, we did now... 🙈

I thought all flight simmers inverted their mouse in first person view? Push mouse/stick = down 🙂

When I first used a mouse for free look in Quake 2, I struggled until I discovered the invert option.

All my non-simming friends think that's weird, and also my preference for 'North Up' map view in satnavs...
