Not going to use defauly, lido etc. Navigraph is pretty much "it" if you want it all.

Kind of the main reason why people like me have owned for so long. Sure, I could download PDF's of my favorite airports but why? I fly all over, various airports, GA or IFR tubeliners galore. I don't have time for that.

Navigraph literally gives me everything and works with pretty much all planes that have it, GNS systems, adjust to flight plans of various plane and their flight plan files (with the downloader) and I can see all charts of almost all airports. I think I repeated myself but hey....

MSFS2024 uses a new navdata provider and it equals (or even surpasses, so I am told) Navigraph's navdata.

Source??

The approach chart for RNP RW 25 is available through the Navigraph charts.

As somebody who does not fly tube-liners, could somebody be kind enough to explain to me what the value proposition of this is for MSFS 2024? Is navigraph only for folks who fly the "study level" airliners, who need the latest data? And how much more current is it than what comes with MSFS 2024?

I could understand this a bit more in 2020, when Navigraph provided Jeppesen charts for the entire world, which was much more convenient than shuffling PDFs, tracking them down, etc.

But now, MSFS 2024 has in-game EFB charts. The entire world is modeled by default with proper airports, navaids, etc.

So, aside from being able to use the Jeppesen charts instead of the default charts that come with the game, what value is there in replacing the default data with the Navigraph data?

Please note, that I am not trying to dissuade anybody, I simply would like to understand. If you can explain to me why somebody would need this in 2024, I would love an explanation.

Here's a simple explanation.  If you fly smaller aircraft outside of the USA, AND intend to only use the default charts and data - you will most likely run into airports without charts.  LIDO usually only covers mid-large airports (airports where airliners would fly into).

But wait there's more lol.  WT has done a nice job and I think they're trying to find more suppliers of charts.  If you fly to small airports in the USA, WT supplements missing charts with FAA charts.

So it's really only non-USA general aviation flying that you may be missing data or charts for if you stick with default LIDO.

That is absolutely not accurate.  LIDO data/charts are non existent in many smaller airports of the world.

You are correct about the charts but it's another story when it comes to data. I have yet to come across data that SimBrief plans use and which MSFS2024 doesn't have. So far I never missed Navigraph data in MSFS2024.

I will see if I can find where I read about the MSFS2024 being on par with or even surpassed Navigraph.

Found it already. Someone from WT posted this so yes, well, it might be a bit biased, haha... but still...

Quote: "You might also evaluate whether you need different navdata in the sim at all; the level of completeness is a completely different level than it was with the previous data partner, and is definitely more than competitive with third party offerings (even exceeding in some areas)."

Anyway, since I (nor anyone else afaik) didn't miss Navigraph's data at all since the release of MSFS2024 I see no real reason to keep my Navigraph subscription. Of course this really depends on how you fly and what your preferences are.

I'm paid through Aug 2025, so will continue using Navigraph till then. When renewal time comes up, I'll see how the native charts/data are doing and will decide whether or not to continue paying Navigraph.

Navigraph is well aware that they need to innovate to keep people like me on board, and get new people, and I'm looking forward to their Flight Training offering and all the new stuff they will be doing in 2025. They are a very high quality developer and have enough money and skill to innovate, and I'm sure they will come up with something good even if many people decide to stick with MSFS default charts.

How is this different from previously? Is Jeppesen navdata more accurate? What navdata source did Navigraph use previously?

Navigraph has used Jeppesen nav data for years. What is “new” is the ability to update the core sim nav of MSFS 2024, as they have long done for MSFS 2020.

MSFS core default nav data originally came from NavBlue. With the advent of 2024, the nav data now comes from Lufthansa (LIDO). Basically, if you have a Navigraph subscription you can now replace the default LIDO data with Jeppesen data from Navigraph (if you wish).

The need to do so might be less important than it was when NavBlue was the default MSFS data provider. LIDO data is generally of equal quality to Jeppesen, though there may be some “gaps” for smaller airports that are covered by Jeppesen.

I’m glad Microsoft decided to change default nav data providers for MSFS, because NavBlue was a horrible choice for them to have used in MSFS 2020. NavBlue data may be good in Europe, but it was (and is) very lacking in the US, with many inaccuracies and missing data. I know of no US-based airline that would ever use NavBlue as an FMS data provider - but many do use LIDO instead of Jeppesen. LIDO tends to be slightly less expensive.

Just note that there is currently a bug in the latest Navigraph Hub v 1.2.13.0.

Navigraph reports that the bug has been fixed on their side with no need for an update to Hub.

I have dealt with both r/w data providers in corporate aviation. When it comes to basic FMS nav data, LIDO and Jeppesen are on a par with each other. I don’t think one is in any way “superior” to the other. However, Jeppesen might have coverage of some smaller airports that LIDO does not.

I think the statement about one provider being “better” than the other has to do with their charts. Many pilots prefer the graphic design and layout of LIDO SID/STAR and APP charts compared with Jeppesen when they are compared side-to-side. It’s very much a matter of personal opinion. Again however, Jeppesen tends to cover smaller airports that LIDO does not.
