PMS 750 or TDS

Featured Replies

To correct what has been said in this thread a few times, and the cost of a Navigraph sub aside, the TDS GTN 750 NXi is the cheaper option. I bought it a long time back. Once-off payment and then an optional upgrade to the Pro version which I have. For those that advocate the PMS version is cheaper, how many times are you going to renew that annual license……….? 😉

The TDS is a brilliant piece of software, makes several otherwise very average GA aircraft something more special.

TDS is incredible. I've spent hundreds over the years on add on gps units for sims. The best have been RealityXp and flight 1. I've studied real world manuals from Garmin to test these out.  The

Don't they also have an option for a one time payment? But that is more expensive than the TDS as well as far as I remember.

Nope, the PMS50 lifetime license is 50 EUR, the TDS is 65 EUR and you also need to get a Navigraph sub which is 10 EUR more, so PMS=50 and TDS=75.

That's not how you calculate that. The Navigraph Sub is neither mandatory nor is it a one time payment.

You must only compare the base package prices.

Well, this is on the TDS site:

Even comparing the base package prices, the PMS50 is cheaper, isn't it?

I'm not debating that, I was just pointing out a flaw in your calculation.

Hmm, the flaw was on your post, as you said the PMS is more expensive. I don't see any flaw on mine, If I want a functional and updatable TDS I need to pay 75 EUR, if I want a functional and updatable PMS50 I need to pay 50 EUR. 😉

PMS dropped their prices once TDS released support for navigraph.  It used to be over 75 EUR for PMS lifetime

It is actually optional. I fly my TDS GTN without a Navigraph subscription... However, if you need current navdata, then yes..

The Pro Upgrade for the TDS GTNXi MSFS requires a Navigraph Subscription

Hello,

Thank you for pointing this out, let's clarify the matters a bit as there seems to be some confusion. When the TDS GTNXi Pro Upgrade has been launched, exactly one year ago, the only two features that it included have been Navigraph Navdata and Navigraph Charts.

Because of this, to avoid possible confusion, we made the decision to write the above mentioned text that a Navigraph Subscription is required. This is quite a bit confusing now that we read it and it is not accurate, a Navigraph subscription is NOT required for the TDS GTNXi Pro to function at all! While we encourage a Navigraph subscription for users to get the most out fo the TDS GTNXi, it is not a technical requirement. Brining Navigraph to the TDS GTNXi has been a great undertaking on our part and we are glad to hear that many of our users are fully enjoying this innovative feature and finally being able to say: the TDS GTNXi Pro has current navigation data/charts!

The users who purchase the TDS GTNXi Pro/Pro Upgrade, but do not have a Navigraph subscription can utilize the product very well, with its built in 2302 cycle navigation database and FliteCharts for North America! As it is now, the Pro Upgrade for the TDS GTNXi bringss much more than Navigraph support, it brings full WT G3X and MSFS 2024 support at the time of writing, with many more state of the art features being in development phase. The TDS GTNXi Pro is in continued development with the features that matter the most to our users!

Thank you very much @Bert Piekefor clarifying the matter.

We apologize for any confusion caused and we have corrected our website by removing that text.

I know that, but you are just confirming what I said. If we want a fully functional AND UPDATABLE TDS GTN  we need to have a Navigraph subscription. So we need to pay the 65 EUR +10 EUR every month.

I have PMS and TDS in MFS I also have TDS in xplane at the end with none of them you can make a mistake unless you want to practice as in real life one has some virtues and others have others, in the end is to put everything in a balance and see what you are more interested in using.

PMS also had a free version for the less demanding ones.

Does the TDS download all recent data, charts and other information from Navigraph when you complete the update cycle or does the TDS require an Internet connection to retrieve some of that information online from Navigraph while using the unit. I’m asking because If you subscribe to Navigraph for one month then cancel your subscription, you could theoretically get a complete updated set of data, maps, charts, etc. for $10 then choose how frequently you want to update after that. I don’t fly airliners or on Vatsim so a monthly subscription is of marginal value. But the option of a one month subscription with data updated annually is appealing.

Edited by Gulf76

I do not have a Navigraph subscription nor own the TDS, but I can almost certainly guarantee that a one month subscription of Navigraph will not download all of the maps and charts to your TDS unit after which you can then cancel the Navigraph subscription and you have access to everything in your TDS unit. The data footprint from the charts alone is probably quite a few gigabytes. Those are most likely streamed in on demand.

Can the data component (the AIRAC cycle) be updated during your one month sub and then it stays in your TDS after you have canceled your subscription? I would fathom YES.

But I sincerely doubt you would still have access to every Jeppesen chart on your TDS after you cancel your subscription.

Again, I do not own either of those products, so my assumptions are purely based on logic and as an IT guy and flight simmer.
