April 21, 20251 yr The 5090 prices are ridiculous in the UK, and next to impossible to get hold of anyway. I’ve seen some 5080s for sale though - but 16GBs doesn’t cut it now. So I’m waiting to see what the 5080ti/super brings in terms of VRAM and performance. My 3090 is doing just fine with frame gen and flying mostly GA - wish I’d bought a 4090 though back in the day. Just for what it's worth, I get that with a 4090, except in big airports with lots of injected traffic. My VRAM is always comfortably low, so I think it's a CPU bottleneck (but I'm not an expert on that). I just flew a trip from Nagasaki to Sendai with graphics settings on max* and RealTraffic injecting real traffic, and the log from AutoFPS shows 60 fps steadily from pushback to parking, with no dips below 60 fps, and no reduction in any graphics settings. OLOD 1000, TLOD 300 on the ground, 800 in flight. I never use frame generation. With medium-sized airports like these, there will be 10 or so static aircraft on the ground, and between 0 and 3 live aircraft taxying on the surface. Enroute, I use a 40 nm bubble for injected traffic and there's no need to ever reduce any settings. That said, I flew into VHHH last night with payware scenery and live traffic, and there were something like 120 parked aircraft and 20 or more live aircraft, and the fps fell to something like 47, but AutoFPS had to occasionally reduce TLOD to 25 to maintain it, with fewer trees, and with clouds stepped down from ultra. From a "smoothness" standpoint, I don't think I could tell the difference between 47 fps and 60 fps, but the mountains around the airport definitely looked flatter with the lower TLOD. I like to have the full package: awesome graphics and buttery smoothness, so I just fly to these mid-sized airports most of the time and I get the results I described above: enough traffic for the environment to feel alive, with graphics on max*, 60 fps, no frame gen. *) Everything is on max except the following: trees (high instead of ultra, because it looks visually better that way); fauna off; raytracing off. There are already some offers just below 3K € in Germany/Austria. I have some hope that prizes continue decreasing. But predictions are like glass bowl prophecies, especially because of the world tariff conflicts. But maybe, the cable overheat problems that can occur are leading to reduced selling which could reduce prizes even more? I'm hoping for prizes below 2500 € ... - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).

For MSFS2020/24 16GB VRAM doesn't cut it at least for 4K and that means a grossly overpriced 5090 - in Australia $6000 plus even up to $7000 if you can get one and maybe even higher if the current turmoil on world trade markets continues. April 22, 20251 yr nVidia would do well if they released a 5080 with 24GB. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
April 22, 20251 yr Don't upgrade to 50xx if you happen to use VR with a Varjo Aero - not supported by current Nvidia drivers. https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/vr-hardware/nvidia-confirms-open-issue-with-varjo-aero-vr-headsets-and-rtx-50-series-graphics-cards-after-affected-users-ask-for-help/ Petraeus

April 22, 20251 yr I refuse to pay 5-6K so ill stick with my 3080 TI Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3
April 22, 20251 yr Is the question meant for using VR? Because I have the 3090, am running a 3.5K monitor, almost all settings maxed out (LOD and details at 200) and have more than enough fps; around 40-45 fps with Fenix at payware-airports without frame-generation and around 80-90fps with FG. I don’t see any need to get better fps. But I don’t use VR. i9 12900k, RTX 3090, 32GB RAM

April 22, 20251 yr Why the need for so much (more?) VRAM? SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.
