April 20, 20251 yr Usually I'm upgrading my GPU every 2nd generation. But this time I'm a bit hesitant, not only because of the prizes. My 3090 works still fine with MSFS 2020 but MSFS2024 could need some more GPU power which I currently circumvent by using Lossless Scaling. What would you suggest? Are there any experiences? April 20, 20251 yr Author Edit: I forgot to add that I I won't buy any GPU with less than 24GB VRAM. So there is currently no alternative to the 5090 as far as I know. April 20, 20251 yr I just went from a i9 12900k and 3080ti to a 9950x3d and 5090. Could not be happier. I went from a 3090Ti to a 4090.. and the difference was crazy. The 4090 was VASTLY better than the 3090.. and the 5090 is better still. It's ridiculously priced, but if money is no object, the 5090 will give you a fantastic boost over the 3090. I believe the 5090 is somehting like ~30% better than the 4090, and the 4090 was around ~80% better than the 3090. Don't quote me, the figures may be off... but the point is, the 4090 was a massive leap over the 3090, and the 5090 is a biggish leap over the 4090 - which means it's a massive leap over the 3090. So yeah, if you have the funds, the 5090 is a great card. It only sucks because of price/performance .. in a vacuum, it's an amazing card. 9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

April 21, 20251 yr I am just a HAPPY camper with my NVIDIA RTX 4090 card and think it is still more than enough for all or at least most games.. cheers 😉 08.2024 new PC is online : ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI Mainboard, AMD Ryzen™ 9 7950X3D Prozessor, G.Skill DIMM 64 GB DDR5-6000 (2x 32 GB) Dual-Kit, MSI GeForce RTX 4090 VENTUS 3X E 24G OC Grafikkarte, 2x WD Black SN850X NVMe SSD 4 TB - Drive C+D, WD Gold Enterprise Class 12 TB for storage HDD, Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1000W PC - Power supply, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO CPU Aircooler with 7 Heatpipes, Design Meshify 2 White TG Clear Tint Tower-Case, 3x 4K monitors 2x32 Samsung 1x27 LG 3840x2160, Windows11 Prof. 23H2 - now Windows11 Prof. 25H2 Flightsimulator Hardware: Honeycomb Throttle Bravo, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, Logitech Flight Joke System, XBox Controller, some Thrustmaster stuff, Winwing CDU Panels.
April 21, 20251 yr I was expecting my 3090 to struggle with 2024 but it handles it better than it ever did with 2020, so I see no reason to change until I change my whole system which might not be until this winter or even later. 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2 - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base
April 21, 20251 yr Can't speak of a 3090 to 5090, but going from a 4090 to 5090 for 4K paired with a 9950X3D has been fantastic. Sold my 4090 for $300 less than I paid for it at launch, so that eased the pain a little. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
April 21, 20251 yr Still running a 3090ti with both 2020 and 2024. Zero problems, and 2024 smoother than 2020. All with 4k, ultra and TLOD=400. But then I'm not chasing FPS. Happy with what I get, typically around 30 - 45. I won't be going for a 5090 myself. I'd try one if it was maybe 400 bucks, otherwise just throwing my money away. Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used
April 21, 20251 yr I saw prices on the 5090 that were north of $4k and there is just no way i am spending that. I can afford it, but i just think it is a terrible use of money. I will keep my 4090 and look at getting a cockpit. But everyone gets to do their own math. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

Especially when the focus is on FG and not pure raster rendering... So if you get call it 38 FPS in the MOST demanding scenario in MSFS you will get an extra 7 FPS for $3-$6,000 I would rather spend $7 on Lossless scaling and get the same AI produced results... April 21, 20251 yr Author Thanks for your comments. If I had a 4090, I would definitely not upgrade to a 5090. Meanwhile, I tend to keep my 3090 until hopefully a 5080Ti (24GB VRAM) arrives. April 21, 20251 yr Question... Can anyone get a solid 4K 60fps "without" FG with MAX settings using a 5090 in MS24? This is the only way that I will upgrade. I can currently get a solid 4k 30 fps, very smooth flying with almost all max setting using a 3090 in MS24 (no stutters, not even on approach). I am not chasing max FPS per se, just a more fluid experience. For me, I get the smoothest flying when fps is lock to refresh rate, so that is why I sit at 30fps now. But my TrackIR pans will be more fluid with 60 fps. Edited April 21, 20251 yr by OverTheEDJ
