May 17, 20251 yr Hi, I'm currently on MSFS 2020 and for the first time in seven years, I'm going to upgrade my sytem to run 2024. My current system is: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz 64.0 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti My new system specs will be: Gigabyte Z890 AORUS ELITE WIFI 7 DDR5 PCIe 5.0 ATX Motherboard Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, S1851, Core Ultra Series 2, 24 Cores, 24 Threads, 5.7 Turbo 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz Corsair Vengeance 32GB GeForce® RTX 5090 Graphics Card (1000W Power Supply REQ.) 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 (x4) NVMe SSD What kind of performance increase can I see? I use PMDG 777 / Fenix A320 at airports like iniBuilds EGLL, KJFK etc... Thanks, Ben AMD Ryzen™ 9 9900X3D, AM5, Zen 5, 12 Core, 24 Threads, 4.4GHz, 5.5GHz Turbo 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz Corsair Vengeance 32GB GeForce® RTX 5090 Graphics Card
May 17, 20251 yr I have just built a very similar spec to yours Ben, difference being I got a Zotac 5070ti 16gb so I'm watching this thread as it hasn't been delivered yet. Chris Howard

That will help much better with MSFS. I'm actually going with this one soon: VENGEANCE a8200 Gaming PC: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, GeForce RTX 5080, 64GB DDR5, 4TB (2TB/2TB) M.2 SSD, Win11 Pro Skipping the 5090 right now due to the extreme prices. 5080 is more than enough for MSFS. Intel is so far behind right now it's not even funny. I've been an Intel guy for a while, but it just doesn't make sense anymore. As far as MSFS performance goes, you'll be so far on top, any issues, you'll know it's not your PC. You'll be able to lock 60FPS and just leave it with add ons on high to ultra settings in 4K. May 17, 20251 yr Switch out the intel cpu for an amd X3D model. All of the benchmarks indicate it’s a better performing chip with lower power consumption. My next build will be similar to yours, with an amd 9800X3D. I’ll probably also up the psu wattage to 1200W. May 17, 20251 yr What are the key differences between 9800X3D and 9900X3D Advantages of AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D Unlocked multiplier Has 4 more physical cores Has 32 MB larger L3 cache size, helping fully utilize a high-end GPU in gaming 6% higher Turbo Boost frequency (5.5 GHz vs 5.2 GHz) -------------- Multicore and single core both matter for MSFS 24. Single thread is the same between these two procs but I find it useful to assign every non-MSFS thread to the 4 available cores I am not using for MSFS 24. MSFS 24 gets all 6 cores on CCD1, and also the two fastest cores on CCD2. Besides various Windows 11 processes I run BATC, SLC, APL, FSLTL, Edge, etc on those 4 cores masked from MSFS 24. It's rare to ever have stutters of any kind now in SU2. May 17, 20251 yr While I wouldn't usually tell anyone how to spend their money, I do think that the AMD x3d processors are significantly better and are a much better choice. Intel is not what it used to be. However, if you have already ordered it, I'm sure it will be fine.. you'll still see a massive improvement, just that the x3d processors would be even better. 9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

Thanks, Ben you'll get good performance out of the box. if you are installing windows yourself, use 23H2...trust me, 24H2 is a mess with MSFS. You'll need to spend some time setting everything up correctly....don't get too trigger happy and just start installing stuff. If you want your money's worth, take the time and tune it for MSFS and/or whatever other stuff you play. Be judicious with what you install...flight sims have notoriously been very sensitive to bloat. You will run into issues....after installing windows make sure to run a: sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth Sometimes the windows install doesn't get it right. Remember, measure twice, cut once and you'll be good. Like i said, take your time. AMD 9950X3D | 64 GB RAM | RTX 5090 FMR: 747 FO, 757/767 CAPT, 737 Check Airman Current 777 CAPT
May 19, 20251 yr Author I've taken all of your advice, gone with AMD, so the new setup is: ASUS ROG STRIX X870-A GAMING WIFI 7 DDR5 PCIe 5.0 ATX Motherboard AMD Ryzen™ 9 7900X3D, AM5, 12 Core, 4.4GHz, 5.6GHz Turbo 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB GeForce® RTX 5090 Graphics Card 2TB Samsung 990 PRO M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe TLC V-NAND SSD 2TB Seagate IronWolf Pro ST2000NT001 NAS Hard Drive, 3.5" HDD, SATA III 6Gb/s, 256MB Cache Will this increase performance on the previous stated rig greatly? You should be able to reach stellar performance with that hardware, Im running 2024 with a 3 year old system (except the 5070) most everything on ultra on 2k 27" monitor with excellent performance, using FG at KJFK I still see 70+ fps, TLOD 150, OLOD 200 very solid and fluid, very happy with my setup. If flying on 2024 make sure you disable Fauna, this one is a fps killer for whatever reason.
