Guys...as long as the conversation says on the subject of EV's or EV conversions, then all is well.   Let's not continue with electrical power generation, etc!  That will bring out the 🔒

So back to my question, neither of you have owned an EV?  Simple question … yes or no?

I have said it on this forum before, I will get an EV with they are 20 years old, sell for around $1000, and their is an established after market of cheap parts available, until then I will continue to buy 20 year old Honda's for around $1000, and keep them going for another 10 years at around $200 to $300 a year on expenses. when I can do that with an EV I will

Your political views will not change what I buy or drive I keep old cars going since I was 16 years old, I will always do that, as I have already said anytime you can prevent a new car from being made in a factory you are benefiting the environment, and since I only drive around 12,000 km a year on a little 1.3 Liter Engine Honda, I am not impacting the environment any more then driving an EV that is plugged into our power grid that is powered by gas and coal as the base power supply, their is no benefit for an EV in my life at this point, but I am not against it in the future, the after market needs more time.

That is my statement leave it at that.

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

I would say before you buy one of the High-performance EV conversions talk to your insurance Broker.

He's talking about a DeLorean.  And he's already mentioned what country he lives in.

You're right of course Martin.   I emptied the vitals and ate at my refueling stops.  But how many recharging stops would I have to make today for 1300 miles?

Depends on the car. Model 3 long range is just over 300. Lucid Air and model S quite a bit over 400. Personally, gas cars or electric, I'd never want to drive more than 200 miles without a break. Just not safe to do so.

Experts say not to drive longer than 100 miles.

"The longest distance you should drive without a break depends on individual factors, but a general guideline is to stop every two hours or every 100 miles. Many experts recommend this frequency to prevent physical and mental strain. "

In 2023, New Zealand generated 88.0% of its electricity from renewable sources, a record high, according to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). This includes hydropower, geothermal, wind, and solar power.

Here's a breakdown of the renewable energy sources in New Zealand's electricity generation:

Hydro generation: Accounts for the largest share, with 60% of all electricity generated in 2022.

Geothermal: A significant contributor to renewable energy generation.

Wind: Increasingly important as new wind farms are built.

Solar: While solar PV capacity is growing, it currently makes up a small percentage of total electricity consumption.

Wellington where I think you are, Mathew...

Wellington, New Zealand relies heavily on renewable electricity sources, primarily hydropower, geothermal, and wind. The city's electricity supply is largely sourced from the national grid, which generates a significant portion of its power using these renewable methods.

While Wellington itself may not have its own dedicated renewable energy sources, the majority of electricity consumed within the city is generated from renewable resources, including hydropower, geothermal, and wind. This reliance on renewable sources is a key aspect of New Zealand's overall energy strategy.

Appart from the fact that a Chevy EV is not available in Europe and that if it would, then it would be sold at least twice that price, I was referring to these beautiful electric conversions made by Electric Classic Cars, such as the Delorean EV, which have costs that are much closer to 6 digits 😉

OK, so now big brother tells us how far we can drive before stopping, which is of course for our own good and public safety, and which, conveniently, fits in well with the idea of necessary frequent, and long(again, for your health and safety), stops, to recharge big brother mandated EV batteries.

All this for the little people, while the folks raking in billions in green subsidies and mandating all this stuff fly from city to city in private jets and are then carted around town in big limousines.

Now that's the kind world I want to live in!

No Dave. It's just the safety recommendations, from numerous safety organizations, for, err, safety. Its not compulsory. And it applies to any car no matter how its powered. It's been the advise for a long time. Everything isn't a conspiracy.

I've never driven longer than 200 miles without a break, makes no sense to risk longer stints. I was using common sense and sticking to 100 to 150 way back in the 1980s

They certainly should. They don't though, they do massive stints. I guess they have some means of relieving themselves. 🤔

I felt a LOT better about that Mercedes 300SL after I found out it wasn't an original, but was a replica.

I work for a Logistics company, if you’re moving containers/goods via truck for more than about 1-3 hours trip, then you’re doing it wrong.  Trucking “long haul” is horribly inefficient and expensive and only performed in extreme case where Cargo ship ports aren’t available and no rail.

Its all about fuel costs, shipping is by far most efficient, then rail.

Parts for those 1960's tech motors are becoming increasingly hard to come by. As I was restoring this vehicle, in the back of my mind I couldn't help but think in another 10 years as the current motor becomes "tired", this car may be a good candidate for an electric conversion (a few people have already done it and there is a readily available motor/controller that will bolt up to the existing gearbox).

If that's the price for getting a classic and to keep them as a daily driver, I could consider it. Two cars for just me is too much for my liking, but I'm sure I'll need a current car as a backup.

And yes, where I live, a manual transmission is a theft deterrent!

Sadly, thieves here know how to drive manual. Anyway, after conversion, wouldn't the car lose the gearbox?
