I would say it definitely compares favorably to the PMDG aircraft.  My personal take, after flying NGs and Maxs for a living for the last 11 years, is that I prefer the iFly.  But, that doesn't mean t

The bigger screens are nice for sure.  Obviously that's just a Max thing vs an iFly thing, but it's still nice.  But specifically about the iFly, things I like:  - OUTSTANDING flight model.  Leap

Yep, it has quickly become my favourite aircraft in 2024, and all I've flown for the past week.

Lvl Change cannot be armed.  It can only be selected as an active mode.  Think about it: level change is a command to climb or descend at a given speed, which defaults to present speed when pressed.  Because of this, you will never select level change on the ground.  Because what is it supposed to do?  It cant climb or descend.  But yes, it'll probably reset your MCP speed to present speed, or as slow as it's able.  I'm not positive what value it would choose as I've never tried it, because it won't work.

There are two vertical guidance modes you can choose - TOGA with VNAV armed, or just TOGA with some manual intervention after the fact.  Yes, you'll set V2 in the MCP.  If you arm VNAV off the ground (the recommended method), speed schedule during cleanup is managed for you.  If you go off in TOGA without VNAV, you'll have to select a vertical mode when it's time to accelerate.

But you'll never select level change on the ground.  I've never tried it in the PMDG either, but if it lets you and doesn't change your speed, then that's a PMDG error.

Always check your FMA anyway 😀

The don't arm LVL CHG on the ground. THAT is unrealistic.

That's exactly why you don't arm LVL CHG on the ground. For the 10th time now. You set it at Flaps Up. Not earlier.

I believe the term "bug up" speed after NADP1 or 2 let you set the Flaps 0 speed on the MCP and it will command LVL CHG. So actually after takeoff and prior to flaps 0 event. This is offcause in manual intervention.

But anyhow i know you are on same page

"Bug up, N1, Flaps X" would be the normal call if not in VNAV.  It won't really command level change but it'll do functionally the same thing until you get to Up speed and are then allowed to select a different vertical mode.  It's been years since I took off in anything but VNAV though. There's just no good reason to do something different.

Andrew:  your thoughts on what you specifically prefer in I-Fly's MAX over PMDG 738?  I did buy the MAX, primarily because PMDG hasn't stated when their 737s will be compatible with 2024.

I can tell you mine. Bigger screens. Much Much bigger screens. Looks betters. Sounds Better.

Did I mention the bigger screens.

The EFB takes getting used too.

The bigger screens are nice for sure.  Obviously that's just a Max thing vs an iFly thing, but it's still nice.  But specifically about the iFly, things I like:

- OUTSTANDING flight model.  Leaps and bounds nicer than the PMDG.  Ground handling alone is a night and day difference.

- Better LNAV / VNAV

- the HGS is a lot more feature complete

-  Sounds

-  a lot of neat little touches, too many to name and not meaningful by themselves, but they add up to extra enjoyment / nerding out.  😁

- I'm not a guy who cares about cabin and exterior modeling much in the sim, but if you are... Oh my.

- Last one is very subjective: but I prefer the mentality of the iFly devs.  They are extremely receptive to suggestions and they solicit feedback.  They are perfectly willing to admit mistakes and they don't make excuses.  I mention this not because any of us should really care on a personal level; obviously, we aren't looking for a friend in the developer or anything when we buy a sim airplane.  I never thought it made much sense how personally offended some people seem to be by behavior from PMDG.  BUT, I do think that these attributes, over the long term, will lead to a very different product than you end up with if you're a dev who makes a habit of ignoring advice, suggestions and feedback.  Obviously no dev can make everyone happy, especially not in this community 😉.  But personally I feel like there's a noticeable difference here.

I'm probably just too used to PMDG's layout, or the 738's, as I flew in it today in 2020 first time after several iFly MAX flights, and it just was much more pleasant to fly and certainly its EFB is simple but effective, whereas I think iFly's was maybe subbed out to Asobo's UI team 🤔?  I'm not a sophisticated pilot so some things for sure are lost on me.  Graphically, I like PMDG's more for sure.  Same with its VC lighting schema.  But I do appreciate hand flying was different and I liked it in the MAX over the 738.  Sounds like the dev is great, iFly's.

Does this thing perform well?  Not quite getting the results I'd like on 2024 and don't want the aircraft to be a burden.

Mine's working great, except i have an annoying popup whenever the plugin starts which i have to dismiss with a very confusing error message. I am flying it right now or i'd upload a picture for clarity.

Oh and my flaps are always at 40 whenever the aircraft loads. Any tips on this?

That's a weird one.  Maybe related to the error you're seeing about the iFly app loading?  Where does this happen: cold load on the gate, on the runway etc?

I always load the aircraft at the gate, so, i only have this experience at the gate. Keep in mind i am using MSFS2024, i never bought it before (for MSFS), completely new install.

Maybe a rogue axis binding. When I set up new aircraft and pick a preset for the assignements as I cycle through them I sometimes also through one that triggers both flaps and spoilers to full.
