July 5, 2025Jul 5 I am tearing my hair out trying to get VR to work smoothly for me. Let me start by saying what I have and what I am trying to do. I have a 7800x3d CPU, a 4090 GPU, 64Gb of 6000 memory, a dedicated WiFi 6e router, and a Quest 3. I am using Virtual Desktop. On the Virtual Desktop Streamer I have Automatically Adjust Bitrate, VDXR, and AV1 10-bit as the codec. In Virtual Desktop I am set to 80fps, SSW always on, and bitrate set to 125. In the sim I have tried both TAA and DLSS Balanced. Using medium settings for most parameters. The first obvious thing I notice is that moving my head around the cockpit is very jerky. Then, sitting on the runway with a Cessna 172 G1000, the Virtual Desktop display shows 8fps at airport KLAS (Las Vegas). FPS improves a little when I take off and I am in the air, but not by much, and the terrain looks pretty bad. I just don't know what to look at anymore. It is so frustrating I am almost to the point of giving up and getting rid of everything. I don't want to do 2D flying as I am primarily interested in doing lightweight sightseeing. Can anyone give me suggesting of where to look and what to try at this point? I feel completely lost as a lot of money has gone into this setup and the results are not good. July 5, 2025Jul 5 Which SIM? If 2024 are you in SU3 beta? If so it's not your it's Asobo, the performance issues have increased during this beta and it's releases and many are reporting dreadfullly low FPS at times. Going back to SU2 and it's much better, so they've borked something (again...), whether this issue gets fixed is unlikely the closer we get to public release. I will drop back to su2 and see if there any difference for me. July 5, 2025Jul 5 It could well be the lighting in your room is causing mistracking which always will introduce terrible stutters and reduction in fps. Try to even out the lighting to all sides and overhead lighting too. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. I would start with 72fps and leave the bitrate alone since you already have automatic adjustment enabled. 2 hours ago, Rob G said: The first obvious thing I notice is that moving my head around the cockpit is very jerky. I would open the performance display in VD and see which area is causing your biggest latency based on your comment about jerky head movement. have you adjusted the channel width on your router? I would suggest at least 80mhz on the 6ghz band and ensure your quest 3 is connected to the 6ghz band. is your computer connected via Ethernet? That’s basically a requirement. im on a 7800XT and 5800X3D way below your specs and I manage 72fps with SSW just fine.
July 6, 2025Jul 6 When you're trying to get something as complex as wireless VR and all its variables to work smoothly, I would suggest avoiding beta software such as FS2024. Some will disagree, but I've been doing this VR thing long enough to know... there's just too many things to adjust / tweak without having the added complexity and uncertainty of Asobos beta product. It isn't ready for primetime, period. Suggest you fire up 2020 for now and at least start with a known stable base. Then you can tweak things like channel widths, etc with some level of confidence. Your system is more than capable of handling the task. cheers, rgds, JB 9800x3d, ASUS TUF x870, 64GB G.Skill DDR5, MSI Ventus 4080, HP Reverb G2 VR, FlyVirtual.net, Private Pilot SEL rating, subLogic FlightSim 1983 & every release since
July 7, 2025Jul 7 What connection speed is VD reporting with your headset? I would disable Automatically Adjust Bitrate. If your connection is stable, you don't want this to be trying to automatically changing. Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. Quest 3 for VR.
July 7, 2025Jul 7 i'm using VD and meta link cable. I get the best results in msfs 2024 by using meta link cabled with the Q3 headset at 90hz, then force the meta link asynchronous spacewarp to 30hz. It runs smoother and clearer this way than any other options I've tried. There are some ASW artefacts, but the other benefits of this outweigh the cons for me
July 7, 2025Jul 7 Author I am about ready to give up. This sim is taking up all of my time, and not for enjoying myself. I have spent days and days trying to get decent VR performance. I have very good hardware including the Quest 3 and 4090, etc. No matter what video I follow, I can't get the results that are shown in the videos. I have 1Gbit internet, I am connecting the Quest 3 to the 6Ghz WiFi band on my dedicated WiFi 6e router. Using the Virtual Desktop overlay I see very high game latency and high latency on the left side of the overlay screen as well. But I have no idea where all that latency is is coming from. I have put the Nvidia control panel back to all defaults. I am lost and don't know what to try next. If I can't figure out something soon I am just going to put all my flight sim hardware up for sale and forget about it. So very frustrating. I have spent a very lot of money on good components and can't get any performance. July 7, 2025Jul 7 Your CPU/GPU are really sufficient for good enough VR performance using Quest 3 in FS2024. I gave up on Quest 3 as I don't like video streaming, but its performance is quite decent. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
July 8, 2025Jul 8 Author I went back into my new dedicated wifi 6e router and found some settings i had made were not completely correct. After changing those settings things got somewhat better, not really great but definitely better. Then for grins i brought everything up again with an empty Community folder and things got a bit better again. So there seems to be more than one issue that i just need to keep pecking away at. It’s better using DLSS but TAA looks so much better in the cockpit. And I’m just testing with the C172 G1000. Don’t really plan to fly big planes, but if i do in the future, i hope i have what it takes in my system. July 9, 2025Jul 9 The latest DLSS patch, set to DLAA in the game and using preset K, performs well and looks very close to TAA clarity in the Q3 for me.
July 9, 2025Jul 9 @Rob G In MSFS I went from my former 13900 to an 7800X3D and it was a worrying stutter step backward and a disappointment in the HP Reverb G2, then in a week after to the 9800X3D and it was more or less the same or a minimal better maybe than the 13900, maybe in other games or in 2D the CPU doesn´t matter and are the same. If you sell that and buy a 9800X3D in second hand, or new, to test, and return it if don´t convince you, possibly would be a gain in VR, and a low inversion maybe haha. July 10, 2025Jul 10 I use the wired Pimax Crystal Light, very happy with overall performance, using latest MSFS 2024 beta. I tried the Quest 3 briefly, but gave up when it came to activating the headset with META over a smartphone. extra useless hassle, plus the wireless WiFi issues. and the Pimax has even higher resolution than the Quest 3. The only major Q3 advantage I found is the Q3's fantastic colour see-through camera and its light weight. I wouldn't complain about VR in MSFS2024 in general, but rather about the Q3 WiFi complexity that it adds. what we need is optional WiFi for room gaming and wired VR for flight simulation where you usually don't jump around in a cockpit.
