MSFS 2024 performance

Highest I've seen personally was 38Gb, and I've _never_ seen VRAM use as high as Rob's above.. [challenge accepted!]

Easy peasy, just set the Render Scale slider all the way up.  Thankfully:  the reg hack obviates that in spades.  Seriously, do it if you haven't already.  Even MrBitstFlyer, who is ultra sensitive for artifacts from 'over' sharpening, likes it.

Logically I'd go with @St Mawgan.  If AMD IS the cause, then those with non AMD systems wouldn't experience the issue.  I do not know enough about the issue to sway what the cause is, but it stan

  • That should be more than enough to run MSFS 2024 at high to ultra settings 👍

  • Outside my budget when I was young, TRS-80 Color computer 32KB with upgraded “bubble RAM” for 64KB. My first Intel based PC I could afford was Packard Bell 386SX … for work I had a Compaq 286 wit

I’ll give the sharpening a try, but I’m very picky about image quality, not picky about FPS so long as it’s above 30.

FYI, SSAA is not a sharpening process, technically more a blur process to reduce jagged edges.  Sharpening process usually involves contrast adjustments.

As far as VRAM, I would assume SU3 Beta (which I have not tried yet) LOD curve will increase VRAM usage as more images will be rendered at higher quality.

More VRAM usage will be better for performance.

I went with a 7800x3d, 64gb ddr5 6400 ram and a 4090. At KJFK, EGLC and various high LOD areas I am getting a solid 70-90 fps with FG, beyondatc with traffic, most settings high with taa and dlss FG. Monitor is 100-180 hz freesync ultrawide and I use a head tracker.

Also, fs2crew raas, fstraffic models, pacx and a ridiculous amount of payware.

I locked the fps at 50 in the cfg file and autofps is set to min tlod of 50 with fps tolerance of 2%. Max tlod is 250 because i dont really care haha. Auto target fps is set and it takes care of the rest.

I would stick with amd cpu really. Im glad I did. Just undervolted with a negative curve of 30 using pbo. Stable and keeps it cool.

I am not going to jump the gun at the moment (until MSFS 2024 is sorted out properly), but I am defintely thinking about those AMD CPUs. I am also thinking about which bank would be the easiest to rob so that I can get a better graphics card than the RTX 5060 Ti

I wish that some 5060ti users would share their experience..   I get a solid 60 fps out of my 4070ti super, and would not be surprised if you could get a solid 30 fps out of a 5060ti.   That might be acceptable to you..  I flew in P3D and MSFS 2020 for years with fps set to 30, and consider 60 fps something of a luxury.. 😉

My AMD stock has been a roller coaster swinging from 88 to 205 in less than a year ... I yearn for the days of stability (which seems more and more unlikely).  I honestly can't recommend a 5060Ti regardless of budget (not for MSFS 2024).  AMD will be releasing a 32GB VRAM card this year (basically a 9070XT but with 32GB VRAM) but likely they will also being asking $2000+

But this seems to be the direction nVidia are going at $10,000+ GPUs nVidia 6000 Pro 96GB ...

I'm very happy with my 9800X3D.  I self built this PC for all in about £3,500 inc new everything.

I could have underspecified some elements for sure, a much cheaper case (£150), a 5080 rather than a 5090 (£1,000), lesser rated PSU 800W not 1200 (£100), one 2Tb NVME not a 4Tb and a 2Tb (£400).  So, I could have got a very very performant PC for about £1,800, or even cheaper.  But the sim devil on my shoulder said don't do it 😄

I think 32Gb VRAM will be enough for a couple of years Rob.

And 1MB of RAM was enough in the 80's 🙂

I got my RTX 5060ti (16GB) as an replacement for my 4070 (12GB) 2 weeks ago and I'm absolutely happy with it. No VRAM-problems anymore and stable 60fps with FG without any stutters, even in EGLL or KJFK with very high settings and Ai-traffic (14700k and 64GB RAM). There is really a profit due to the amount of faster VRAM!

After overclocking it's very close to the 4070 in benchmarks (3DMark).

MSFS2024 isn't an ego-shooter game - so the RTX 5060ti is a brilliant graphics card for the sim!

I've noticed a substantial drop in VRAM use since I first installed 2024 about 3 month ago.  And, a commensurate increase in system RAM use.  I'm using SU2 now.

Do you think 64GB is necessary, or 32GB is plenty?

I have been checking out the prices of PCs recently, and also thinking about what system would be good enough if I decide to switch to MSFS 2024 at the same time. My use case would still be 1080p resolution on a 24" monitor. I am not going to be spending ridiculous amounts of money on the top end graphics cards, so I have been thinking about an i7 14700KF/16GB RTX 5060Ti combo. Would this be sufficient to run MSFS 2024 at decent detail levels? A system like this would be significantly more powerful than the i5 7600K/6GB GTX 980Ti powered PC that I am currently using, and that 16GB VRAM should provide me with comfortable headroom @ 1080p resolution. However, I would be interested to know what you guys think about it.

There are still certain features/issues regarding MSFS 2024 that I would like to see sorted out, but I just want to prepare myself if/when the day arrives

Do not go for Intel !!!

Intel is Dead IMO ..

I had Intel for years and have sworn by it for years and last year i set up my NEW PC on AMD.

After thinking and pondering for a long time about whether I should do this or not, I can tell you now, after a year of using AMD, nothing else, I'll never go back to Intel, I would never have believed it either, but it's true. And I would recommend (if at all possible) a graphics card with 24 GB of VRAM, you're always on the safe side. With anything under 24 GB of VRAM, you always run the risk of it being too weak with today's Simulators, but that's just my opinion.

I am so incredibly satisfied with my system (see my specs), everything works perfectly, I can only recommend it !

cheers 😉
