Following as I'm very keen to find a replacement for APLV2 which seems to have hit a dead end in terms of development and is showing its age.

Agree with some of the comments above about flight time duration - Not sure why they would limit the hours or aircraft type.... whats the advantage in that for the user?

Have you tried iFly Schedules? 🙂

Not sure that would ever be changed as that would defeat the purpose of the application. It needs to know if you arrived late or on time...  On one hand I cant say I love that but on the other hand co

Seriously, I would love to be in a stage of life where I could actually commit that much time to this. Treat it like a job. Instead I average a single hour and a half session every two weeks. It would

  • Thanks, I’m likely going to pick this up later this evening. Will post my impressions as well.

Not liking the interface much. On my 4K screen at 150% zoom, it's too small. Can barely read most of it. Also, when you're in a flight, the interface is pretty bad - loads of wasted space, no real info.. just looks ugly.

As of right now I still prefer APLv2, this feels not great.

Share a screenshot or 2? I find Neofly4 to be rather large and kiddish a UI. Air Hauler 2 is too spreadsheet and unrewarding.

Here. On my 27inch 4k screen, this is as big as I can make the interface. The text is small and hard to read in places, and just feels strange that I can't make it bigger.

As a beta tester, I did raise this issue with the developer. I think he's trying to have too much content vis-a-vis page. I hope he finds a solution. Also, while a "dark" theme is supposed to be great for better readibility, it creates a less than appealing page to look at. It's a great program for folks who want a non 2024 career add on. I am confident that it will evolve into a greater one with user feedback.

Yes, these seem like relatively easier things to fix...hopefully they continue to improve it.

Hmm, that's another concern, self loading cargo had the same issue and I couldn't read a friggin thing on my 4K monitor and no option increase font size so I simply stopped using it so yes it's a very valid complaint.  Seems like this career app could have used some more time in the oven, not writing it off as it's admittedly fresh to the market and no doubt improvements can be made.  But for now I'll be keeping an eye on it to see how it progresses going forward in fixing some of its shortcomings first.

As a beta tester for FTL, I can assure everyone that this program is far more full of options than a Pilot's Life.

Can one fly something smaller than airliners? I'm thinking of the C700, PC24, or E600.

I also wish there were a trial period so that users can see if it fits their needs. Most of us have our own ideas about what a career app should be.

I haven't bought the program yet but follow the discussion on the JustFlight forum. You cannot fly helicopters, but you can fly other airplanes like turboprops etc. The biggest limitation right now appears to be that FTL is limited to medium and large airports. A lot of airports that you may fly to in smaller airplanes are simply not included yet. However, smaller airports will be added in a future update.

Generally, the developer is responsive and appears to care about their users. I will wait until smaller airports are included and then consider getting FTL.

Yes I’ve shelved it after using it a bit. It’s just not pleasant to use, the interface isn’t well done. Needs a proper UI/UX pass - looks ok in screenshots but when you use it, it’s just not nice.

APL, while somewhat dated, is far nicer to use. Of course it doesn’t have any of the “life” features that FLT does, so if that’s what you want FTL wins. But if you just want some structure to your flying, schedules etc.. I’d pick APLv2 over FTL for now.

  • 2 weeks later...

I purchased it, but my initial impression is it's not to my liking. If the base it thinks doesn't have enough routes it pads out the schedule with quite a lot of fictitious flights. Having chosen a base, I'd rather be the judge of whether I have enough variety and fictitous routes ruins the immersion for me. Also the route info looks to be out of date, perhaps winter schedules not summer ones? Maybe this will be updated. In comparison, how up to date are the routes/schedules in APLv2?
