I’ve recently started downloading my content rather than streaming and there is more consistency visually and performance is improved (gained a few FPS).  Haven’t notice any difference in loads times on initial flight start.  FYI, my internet connection is good (900Mbps down and 80Mbps up on average with slight variance thru-out the day) and I’m relatively close to MS servers for MSFS 2024.

I’m curious to know what your experiences are with Download vs. Streaming?

1Gb connection down 100Mb up, I use a VPN to connect to US servers at heavy load times in the UK.  No real issues for me Rob.

I can't see a reason to download as I have performance perfection already.  Done, complete, no stutters anywhere including landing after a 3h flight in a complex airliner.  No Rolling Cache in use, but I also don't enable PG.

Sorry, but I don't really understand such pointless postings !
Just try it out for yourself, what is best for you !

The point was that there is no "one size fits all".

Everyone's experience will vary so it is like comparing apples and oranges.

No need for such a sarcastic response.

I use PG.  I’m not really sure how the streaming is being used in the context of MSFS 2024.  My M.2 local storage read is around 14,000MB/s and writes around 13,000MB/s (Samsung 9100 Gen 5) … compared to a 1Gbps “streaming” speed which is 125MB/s.  My M.2 local storage is about 112 X faster than streaming and much lower latency.

I assume the content streaming is direct to memory and not saved in order to reduce local storage usage?  I assume PG will come from either my rolling cache and if not found streamed to RAM then Cached to local storage (32GB rolling cache size limit)?

Is “content” streaming (no PG) exclusively to RAM only and no Caching to local storage?

Does downloaded content have any relationship to the rolling cache for PG?

If they are separate, how are they prioritized?

So how do we know that?  There could very well be some sizes that will fit most as a rule of thumb.  It’s why these topics are discussed to aid the understanding and optimal configurations.

Why you’re defending someone else’s post who is saying my post is pointless … this is beyond baffling to me and certainly doesn’t contribute to anything helpful or useful.  There are better methods of communication … if one doesn’t understand then ignore … it’s not for you.  Not into passive aggressive posts.

From the very first moment  the devs said they were going for the mostly streaming model of content delivery i saw the potential issues.

My fears intensified during the initial pre release public beta. I was on the forums complaining about the servers not serving and it taking literally 10 minutes for the initial scene to load.

In that period i changed my comcast internet plan from 400mbs down to 1gb unlimited data hoping this new method of content delivery would work but it was not to be.

There was improvements about a week after release of 2024 where my scene would go from loading in fully blurry to less blurry in maybe three minutes but after taking off i could still see stuff loading in not only in the scenery but also in the cockpit.

I considered parking 2024 permanently after that but complained like hell about not having a download option of commonly used assets wherever i could. Thankfully enough voices joined in the complaints and  made the devs look at alternative ways to satisfy these issues. Even though they really tried to give the smoke and mirror dance of petabytes of data needed blah blah blah. No one was asking for all the data to be downloadable.. just the most commonly used base assets ..

SU3 came and once that download feature was enabled the sim pretty much started to work properly for me... (No more waiting for blurred sections of cockpit or runways or trees to become sharp) It just loads correctly .. the first time .. all the time.

The pain for the ability to download the base files and aircraft ? ... A longer sim startup time... and making sure you are on top of keeping your files current in the file library plus 400+ GB of storage space. (I will take that tradeoff with pleasure !!!!)

I haven't used MSFS2020 since then. Everything in 2024 feels properly solid and fully loads up.

I noticed a lot of people in the MSFS forums complaining that it makes no difference for them and they are wondering WHY the devs wasted time in setting this up ... it brings no benefits and the like.. Well all i can say is that. If the default way works for you please by all means.. but please be respectful and accommodating  of the people who have legitimate issues in trying to get the sim to work properly and the differences that we all  have in terms of access to network infrastructure, our unique setups  and to add icing to those variables the subjective levels of tolerance of people as to what is an acceptable simming experience. I appreciate Asobo for working on this essential feature for me.

I did'nt notice much after downloading the HJET and think a 64k cache with streaming is the ticket.

What are interesting thread that are usefull for you?   If something is not for you, just skip it.  I've seen threads that are about tubeliners, that I have no interest in flying, but I still learned something about MSFS 2024 in general from them.
